HOME NETWORK HELP PLEASE?????
My uncle is trying to connect multiple devices to the internet by using 2 DSL modems, 1 wireless router, and 4 devices that let you use the electrical wiring in your house as a network (you plug in an ethernet cable from the modem or router into the device, plug the device into the wall socket, connect the ethernet cable from the device you want to connect to the internet to another of those plug-in devices, and plug that into the wall). The setup goes like this:
Scenario 1: He has a PS3 he wants to connect to the internet in the living room via ethernet. He uses 1 DSL modem and 1 wireless router to create a wireless network for his laptop. 1 ethernet cable coming from 1 of the 4 LAN ports on the router connects to one of those plug-in devices in a wall socket. The ethernet cable coming from the PS3 connects to another plug-in device that plugs into the wall socket. The PS3 and laptop are now connected to the internet.
Scenario 2: In his bedroom, he has a blu-ray player that he wants to connect to the internet via ethernet. He uses 1 DSL modem and 2 plug-in devices. 1 ethernet cable from the modem connects to 1 plug-in device in the wall socket. The ethernet cable coming from the blu-ray player connects to another plug-in device in the wall socket. The blu-ray player is now connected to the modem BUT NOT the internet.
Is this because he's using 2 modems when he should only be using 1? Is there a better way of doing this, because it's REALLY ticking both of us off right now. And I don't know WHY he can't just use a really long ethernet cable for the blu-ray player, he just doesn't want to.
I don't know why, but the DSL modem for the blu-ray player refuses to connect to the internet and the DSL status light is red, which means it's not working. Why is this happening?

It would be my best guess, and that's all it is (though based on experience of networking) that both DSL modems are providing DHCP as well as having the same IP address - perhaps 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, typically (192.168.1.254 if it's Speedtouch / Thomson).
What could be happening is the devices connected to the non-internet connected router are getting IP addresses from it and it's advertising its own IP address as the default gateway ("I am the route to the internet"). It is capturing the various devices attempts to go to the internet. Those directly connected to the internet connected router are being served internet.
What you need to do is disable DHCP on the non-internet connected DSL router, and also set its IP to something different to the internet connected DSL router - for example 192.168.1.2 - but bear in mind that DHCP has a range that it will hand out to devices as well, so be sure to pick something that isn't going to conflict.
What your non-internet connected DSL becomes is a switch (and wireless access point if it has WiFi) but forwards all IP and internet access to the internet connceted DSL device.
I hope I haven't confused the issue more! To sum up:
Internet DSL - leave as is (but note the IP range, for example is it 192.168.0.0 or 192.168.1.0 or even 10.0.0.0?)
Non-internet DSL - disable DHCP, change IP to something in the above DSL range (192.168.1.2, for example) and set the default gateway and domain DNS for it to the above DSLs IP.

set up a instant router in the homestead as long as you're subscribed to DSL or Cable internet. Then set up a instant computer card into the computer or use a instant USB device. Linksys makes a sturdy product for such purposes. merely verify you setup the WPA protection useful factors. there isn't any would desire to offer away your internet connection for loose. replace the production unit defaults too for the admin password adn router call.
