How long should I leave him out?
Let my 3 year old 80lb male pit/bullmastiff outside to potty. Its 7 am New Years day and 18 degrees. How long should I leave him outside? (He sleeps in his crate inside at night.)
Thanks Guys. He's back inside the house.

It depends on your dog. Some dogs are quick and go out and do their business others like to sniff around or even run around if they have a large yard. Dogs do have a fur coat to help keep them warm so its not like you or I standing out there without a coat. Take cues from your dog. If he seems happy frolicking outside then let him stay out for as long as he would like. I have a dog that loves being outside for about a half hour or hour when its cold and another that I have to convince to stay out long enough to do her business.

Our Lab goes out to potty and when she is finished she's back at the door to get inside the warm house - she's out no more then 5 mins.

You could leave him out all day if you wanted to. Wild dogs live outside all the time so don't worry about him getting cold or anything. When he's had enough he'll go to the door or start barking, just keep an eye on him :)

I'd not leave him out at all - just long enough to do his biz. and then bring him in. Mine would go out (when the temperatures were this low, out in Canada) and I'd keep an eye on them and as soon as they headed for the door, I'd open it for them to come back in. If he's running around out there, he's probably fine, but don't leave him out there standing around.

Do not leave him outside any longer than you can be out there. Once you start feeling too cold to stay out there any longer, it is time for both of you to go back inside.

Julissa, EXCELLENT answer!!! And I love your dog! I had a Labrador/Husky cross that was pretty much the spittin' image of your dog. Beautiful!!
