Is a pomegranate tree evergreen? if its shed its leaves does this mean it has died?

Update:

I live about 80 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico, the temperature is usually mild here but we had a freeze recently, down to 25 degrees for several hours and my tree lost its leaves.

Thanks for the answer, I believe it was the cold snap and hope it will put out new leaves in the spring.

They will lose their leaves. Mine has every year since I've had it. I, too, live near the Gulf. Mine has lost its' leaves each fall and they return each spring. When they fail to appear in the spring I will know it has died.

    Good luck and enjoy!

    Are Pomegranate Trees Deciduous

In Brazil, where I live, yes, the pomegranate is evergreen. But, in temperate or mediterrean climate they are deciduous. The climate in my city is tropical, we don't have a "winter", we have two seasons: a warm and wet season (summer) and a mild dry season (winter). But the difference between the seasons is about 5°C. Isn't enough to pomegranate drop your leaves. In other hand, for exemple, in USA, like Atlanta, or Europe, like Rome, they deciduous, there has a specific season, the difference between summer and winter is or more than 15°C, they drop their leaves during any autumn.
