Diet plan for insanity workout?

I'm a male and I've played soccer my entire life and it has kept me in excellent shape, but I have not been active with a team for almost four months now. I've put on some extra weight and I'm far from fit. I borrowed a copy of the insanity workout dvd's from a friend, which I plan to start tomorrow but my dilemma is I've always relied on soccer for all of my fitness and don't know proper dieting while doing such an intense program. As well, should I be taking protein? My main focus is to drop the excess weight I've gained and get back to playing weight and fitness.

I have been a personal trainer for ten years (specializing in fat loss) and the best nutrition plan I have come across in that time is Precision Nutrition.

Go to this blog www.2xRFitness.com, scroll down and on the right hand side you will see a link for it.

    Hope this helps.

Well, you aren't going to lose 40lbs by the end of June. It'll probably take like 4 months. Insanity in my opinion isn't worth squat. I did it for a while to gain some stamina, but it didn't help at all. In the end, I just ran. I still tun today (Well, not now because of shin splints). Healthier eating habit are the best way to lose weight. Subtracting 500 calories everyday equates to one pound a week. If you burn 1000 a day, that's 2 pounds a week and so on. Include some sort of high calorie burning exercise and it should be doable. I honestly don't recommend running at your current weight. It could lead to stress fractures. You can, however use an elliptical (I don't count that as running).
