How Can I Improve My Exercise Routine?

Hi!

I have a treadmill and I run for about 20 minutes EVERYDAY or about 1 and half kilometers.

After that, I also do various stretches for about 20 to 30 minutes.

I'm apparently 'obese' (or heavy for my height) so my goal is to lose twenty pounds or more.

I've put on quite a bit of muscle in my arms and chest, and I heard that putting on muscle speeds up your metabolism?

I'm not really looking to lose twenty pounds THAT quickly (although it would be nice). A gradual loss is okay.

Any tips and suggestions?

PS: I cut back on the carbs and sugar (which is hard because of all the holiday chocolate)

    Play a sport, change it up a little bit. Go outside and shoot some hoops. You could do alot of things to lose weight not only the treadmill.

    That is correct that having more muscle mass increases your metabolism, as it needs more energy to maintain itself even when your not exercising.

    Using a rowing machine is one of the best ways to lose fat, as it works almost the whole body, arms, legs, back, stomach, the whole lot. And as long as you don't set the resitance too high it can be done for a long time too. But generally any excercise you can do for a long time will help burn fat.

    Personally I would switch your routine round though, do your stretches before the run. It will help loosen you up and enable you to work harder in the proper excercises.
