Christians, I'd like your opinion. Do you have a date that you think Jesus will return on? What is it?

Just looking to find out where most Christians here stand on the issue.

I don't think we can know a date... but others seem to think we can. What do you guys think?

Inspired by this question:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsHfW...

And for the record, there are no wrong answers here. I'm just looking for opinions. People of other religions can feel free to answer, but please try to answer from the perspective of what Christians you personally know are saying.

Thanks!

Update:

Also for the record, no thumbs-down are going to be given by me, unless an answer is particularly rude, which none so far are.

I don't think anyone will know, as Mat 24:36 says, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only."

If you want to know where most Christians stand on this issue who read their bible. Where they stand is no one knows the date Jesus will return. Just like the bible says.

Matthew 24:36-44 (New King James Version)

No One Knows the Day or Hour

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,[a] but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour[b] your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

  • IMO, Jesus already returned in AD70... the end of the "world" / age had to do with the end of the Old Covenant Age, not the physical world. Jesus told His original disciples in Matthew 10:23...

    Matthew 10:23

When YOU (the original disciples whom He is talking too) are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

    and

    Matthew 16:28

“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here (2,000 years ago) will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

So Biblically speaking, either we have some 1900+ year old disciples still roaming around Israel trying to reach all the original towns or Jesus did return like He said He would and most of Christianity is just ignorant / blind to the truth of what the "2nd coming" was really about.

Below is an article from a friend of mine which talks about this topic in much greater detail... for those interested in investigating further. If not, that's cool... either way... Peace :-)

None of us know :) (good news, because we'd all freak out if we did)

For some bizarre reason, some Christians seem to have convinced themselves that there is some hidden code in the Bible that shows the date of the end of the world. It's completely made-up of course. The Bible itself says that only God knows :)

I don't think any Christian who's actually read the Bible could say when the end of the world is? I think maybe because Christians are often anticipating Judgement Day, we try to see if the Bible points us anywhere.

No Christian who claims to believe in the Bible should give you a date for Jesus's return, because he himself said (at Matthew 24:36), "Concerning that day and hour, nobody knows, not the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father." So at that time, even Jesus himself didn't know what time God has planned for Armageddon. (Which also disproves the trinity, unless you believe that 1/3rd of yourself can know something the other 2/3rd can't know.) Since his resurrection back to Heaven, he has obviously discussed it with his Father, but it remains that no man knows the date. If they did, there would be a lot of "Christians" suddenly on the day before.

I do NOT think we can set a date!! God said we wouldn't be able to do so. I say keep your eyes on Israel.

The very end won't come until the nations make a peace pact with Israel and the Muslims. Jerusalem will be made an International Holy City of the three faiths.

The Temple will be able to be rebuilt ALONGSIDE that Dome of the rock, for the Holy of Holies is NOT under that Dome- it was a threshing floor, remember? Threshing floors were FLAT spots!!!

Anyway- at first the world will rejoice and say peace peace. But then it will all go haywire.

So who knows????? I probably won't be "alive and remain" here on the earth.

No one truly knows the end of the world..its impossible to say..yeah the sun will billions of years from now start it's super nova and kill us when it reaches a certain temp, but who knows if that will kill the whole human race or if we will be gone before that? I'm a catholic and we believe that Jesus will come again and take the people still on earth (who aren't going to he'll) up with him to heaven.who knows, the world could end tomorrow or twenty years from now, or billions of years from now.no one knows. It's like asking people if they know the exact date time place and way they will die..the only way they could be certain would be a horrid planned suicide...besides that it's IMPOSSIBLE to know. Other religions may think different but whether you believe in my god, my Jesus no one knows still! I'm not trying to come across as ignorant of other people's beliefs so don't read this the wrong way..I'm just saying this logically, scientifically, and 2012 isn't real..it's a movie for a reason.. Hope this helped!

I don't think anyone will know the day. . . But we will have a good guess because the Bible says that more natural disasters will occur and things will get worse (which is already happening) so the worse they get then the sooner His coming will become :) I can't wait!

Miller, William (1782-1849) US religious leader who prophesied the second coming of Jesus Christ for 1843. His followers, called Millerites or Adventists, laid the foundations of modern Adventist sects. (the New American Desk Encyclopedia).

    yes, nobody knows.

    I'm not a Christian.

I believe that jesus will return once he is completely eliminated from society in a few generations. The world is slowly losing faith and church membership is declining as well as people who read the bible. The bible says jesus will return when no one expects it. So i think that once society doesnt know him. He will return. Just my opinion though.
