Do You Think I'm Actually Obese?

Please read before answering

My BMI is a bit over 32 (I'm 5'6 1/2 and around 200 pounds), I know I'm overweight, but I never really considered myself obese because I'm more physically fit than a lot of the thin people in my grade (I can do a 7.3 on Beep Test/Shuttle run---also over a year, I was able to do 7.3 from 3.2)

I have extra fat, but nothing that hangs off my body and you can see some of my ribs really clearly.

Also, I'm able to jog without stopping for 20-30 minutes.

I heard that BMI can be limited by muscular individuals (like body builders and athletes), is this true?

Because apparently my ideal weight would be 140 pounds (meaning I'd have to lose at least 60 pounds).

My family is thickly boned and having large (but short) frames. Might that have something to do with it?

What do you guys think?

I agree that there are a lot more factors that go into the factoring of the BMI. You may certainly have more muscle than other people, and muscle does weigh more than fat. In fact, many female athletes actually have BMI's that put them in the obese category although visibly they are very thin. Like weight, a BMI is merely a guideline. Most people with high BMI's are obese, but not all. Actually, the best person to ask would be your doctor.

Well yes, genes do come into play strongly, as well as the people you live with. The ideal weight is around there, so losing a little may help. On the BMI issue, they are very inaccurate. Some athletes could be all muscle and have a 35.

On the charts it is amazing what is obese. A BMI of 20-25 is ideal. I have a product that sheds fat and builds lean muscle. It is safe and natural. It is a great product and program. If you are interested please contact me.
