How is the talking snake of the Bible any different than, say, Medusa of Greek mythology?

And yet one is laughed at and the other believed by millions.

If you want a serious answer - the serpent is a much more ancient and complete myth (or allegory, if you want). The snake in the garden serves as a good pointer to the nagging stuff at the bottom of our subconscious that makes us less than we aspire to.

The Medusa is a much later portmanteau creation - but in essence, still a monster from the id of mankind.

great qustion, thanks. i imagine the different solutions have it lined. i might want to favor to operate that there have been a dozen, or 2 dozen, or extra (LOL) "religions" earlier the bible changed into written. i have self belief the superb faith earlier the bible changed into referred to as "mithraism" such quite some religions have had the savior determine, born to a virgin mom, who finally sacrifices himself, and certain that's always a guy, the son of a father. ?? No heavenly mom? No earthly daughter? Now i'm a guy and that i have no project gazing this. we stay in a male ruled international, and that is a outcome of our beliefs. we, as humanity were very unbalanced between the male and female energies. with the aid of ways, I realized a lot from greek mythology in an english classification at the same time as i changed into 10 years old. more desirable than i ever would have realized from the bible, no offense meant.

It is very probable that the snake had the ability to speak, or rather that Adam and Eve had the ability to understand what the snake was saying. In a perfect state, man may have had the ability to understand the animals in the garden. After all, God gave him the garden to look after and tend to the animals. Why shouldn't he be able to understand the voice of the serpent. I believe it was after Adam and Eve sinned, that they lost their ability to understand what the animals said. They had died spiritually to God and could no longer perceive His presence in their midst. They suddenly realized they were naked and made clothes, something they had not been aware of before. This would imply that their thinking and spiritual state had been drastically altered.

I have no doubt that animals talk to each other. Scientists have even speculated that dolphins have their own language. Why is a snake's ability to communicate impossible?

Because nowhere does it say "talking snake".

It says "serpent" which is translated from the infinitive "ha-nachash" which means either "to shine" or "shining one".

    That would be Satan.

That is how it is much different from Greek mythology or any other mythology for that matter.

People really need to learn the difference between mythology and religion.

The only reason people adopt their neighbors and parents religions is because they have the ideologies forced on them from childhood, before their young minds can form sophisticated arguments against these kinds of ideas. Then, they're taught not to question these ideas and beliefs.

More or less the same with politics.
