my gerbil is nipping me now?

i got my female gerbil just a few days ago, 4 days ago. she was really nice like didnt nip us or anything. we bought her with a companion until the other "female" gerbil started to hump her. so we returned the male gerbil and then we noticed that she was the only female there! so we returned home with only one gerbil. anyways starting yesterday she has started nipping me, not hard enough to hurt but like she wants me to go away. what do i do i cant get too close to her unless i have a treat for her to take

    Well gerbils may bite for the first week. So I would just put your hand in the tank like just enough for her to sniff and get use to your smell.

    The reason she is nipping is because she is scared of her new home. It takes about 7 to 14 days before they are fully relax and can be held. I know when I get new gerbils I let them relax for a week to 2 weeks before I start anything bonding with them.

    To bond with her just let her sniff you for a few times a day and then after 2 to 3 days then try to pick her up. I know she is going to run just scoop her up and let her run over your arms with your arms crossed and let her get use to your smell. Then do that for awhile and after that then you should be able to hold her when you want.

    Since you said that you had to take the male back are you sure they didn't mate?? They usually don't hump unless she is in seasons so there is a good chance that you may have babies in 24 days.

    Hope you have fun with your gerbil :D

    Your gerbil has been there for decrease than a week. It needs time to settle and get used to each and every thing. Your gerbil changed into nipping you because it had to get to carry close you and what you smelled like. yet another reason is probable you in undemanding words touched some nutrition and your gerbil is eating the nutrition (;

    Spray your hand lightly with hairspray before handling. It tastes bad and should help discourage the nipping. http://zoocrewkids.blogspot.com/
