How long did it take you to learn to touch type?
Also, do you have any tips on speeding up the learning process, or how to keep motivated to learn? Thanks!

You will find that if you look at the keys you will make mistakes. Do it without looking. If you can type 40wpm you must know where the letters are on the keys, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't know where the keys are, the simplest way is to practice. using left hand, type over and over again, asdfg. Do this for 10 minutes. Then with your right hand type, ;lkjh over and over, then go on to the top row and the bottom row and the numbers. Good luck, but 40 wpm is good, unless you have a job that needs more.

It took me about three months.. I am excellent at typing.. not spelling so much though! haha. I learned on a typing program.. for students. im sure you could find one on ebay or something. it'd be worth the purchase, especially if your planning on being on the computer a lot.

My mother taught me. Every time I looked at the keys on the typewriter, she wacked my hand with a ruler. I learned to type very quickly. ;)

months of five to seven hours a week.
the typing games [type the letters you see as they fall, etc.] aren't too bad. and the best keep track of the keys you're most likely to miss or delay hitting and present them more often.
