The REAL issue is the abuse of entitlements by those receiving them and not the entitlements per se.

State rights over federal rights does not imply that the federal government cannot set law and regulations. State rights do not exclude the federal government from passing laws and regulations.

You cannot be on welfare longer than 5 years anymore, in some states it is down to 2 years. You have to work when you are on it now. Well, actually since the GOP and Clinton passed the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. Which sort of made the State of Wisconsin's model for welfare the new federal law. The GOP controlled Congress wrote and sent the bill up and it was approved in the Senate and then Clinton signed it.

Un-employment kicks off after 6 months. But the states have always had extensions that were partly financed by the feds. That is where most of the stimulus went too, Long term un-employment.

So, are you saying that after 2 years that you just go and starve to death?

Why is it just great to go a trillion into debt to shore up Iraq, and Afghanastan, and yet when it comes to taking care of OUR citizens, who have worked and paid taxes, we cannot afford it?

The problem is corruption. I don't care if your a $2 crack whore or a multi million dollar politician. The corruption exists in every walk of life. Nobody has a sense of dignity, honor, morality, or honesty any more. This is why it doesn't really matter what they do in Washington, the corrupt will always cause social programs to fail. These programs are abused by almost everyone who is involved with them.

Well, if you don't have entitlement programs, you wouldn't have to worry about the durration. Any entitlement program is open to abuse, whether you make it difficult to qualify for or of limitted durration or both - it's still a perverse economic encentive and a potential runaway budget item.

The real issue is breeding a lazy parasite class that creates several generations who live on public assistance, and they have never even seen a family member bring home a paycheck, ever.

    Both

BUT that doesn't take into account that without them some people simply will not support themselves and what you end up with is a spike in crime and homelessness. You can change the system but not the people. It's a damned if you, damned if you don't kinda situation.
