How many ways did Andrew Luck screw the Carolina Panthers draft?

Not only are the panthers not able to draft Luck but the trade value for the pick was cut in half.

The panthers were in line to get a bidding war between SF,AZ, Seattle, Oak the 49'ers were rumored to be willing to trade Crabtree, their top 10 pick in 2011, and a 2012 pick. The Panthers would still be in line to draft Gabbert the 2nd best qb in the draft and get picks to fill their many needs

With so many needs that the Panthers have it would not really screw them up at all. They may not want to trade down their pick this year anyways, but instead get one guy they think can build a team around. This could either be on offense or defense for them. I disagree with that one answer that said that the DE would not be good because of the way the league is becoming a passing league a pass rush is a must. Offense is great but a great defense will help out a lot in the seasons as well. They have a wide open path on who to pick, or to trade down for more picks and build that way. This is going to be a long off season so who knows what will happen.

  • The Panthers need to trade down and get multiple 1st round picks, they have a lot of needs. From what I understand, Andrew Luck has 2 years of eligibility left and wants to get his degree. He will graduate a year early and since the New Collective Bargaining Agreement will have a Rookie Salary Cap Structure, financially there will be limits on how much he can make. No more, will be see teams paying out as much as $50,000,000 in signing bonus money. It's not like the Panthers will not be able to pick up a good Quarterback in this draft. This appears to be the best draft to pick up a good quarterback in years.

none. the panthers are actually happy that they didnt have to spend the money on a first round QB, now they can focus on getting a new head coach that can work with their beginner QB's Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen and Tony pike. the panthers will probably go ahead and draft a DT or DE in the first round. Gabbert will most likely go to the 49ers or vikings.

What I find funny is that now Da'Quan Bowers is the projected first overall pick. I hope they don't waste a pick on him when they just traded Julius Peppers last off-season. A bull rushing DE is great, but it's not going to win you championships and it's not as important as some other areas the Panthers are weak at.

Not at all...he didn't pull a "Manning" and the team needs so many quality players that trading the top pick for a bundle of picks is probably the best way to go.

    Marc-

Do you mean Pac-10 QB's like John Elway, Troy Aikman, Jim Plunkett, and Dan Fouts?

I think there are only three HOFers and seven Super Bowl wins in that group.

If Gabbert's the second best QB, this year's QB harvest will be pretty bad.

I'd go with Stanford quarterback Andrew luck. It looks like they missed with Jimmy Clausen; though it can be sort of unfair to assume any rookie quarterback to have success. However, if luck is the possibility all people thinks he will be, Carolina easily cannot move him up.

I think they'll try to pick up a veteran QB from somewhere. They got a rookie QB last year.

any organization that has 1 college kid determine their future was screwed from the beginning
