How to get my HD camcorder to record in HD?

I recently brought an HD Camcorder. I have recorded indoors in UXP mode and tested it on the TV with a mini HDMI cable to see what the picture quality was like but it doesnt seem to be showing in HD, so then I tested the camera in SD mode, EP mode and UXP mode and watched it on the TV there was no difference in the picture quality whatsoever. My camcorder is a JVC Everio. Can you please tell me why I can't view in HD and how can I watch it in HD. Or is it because I need to record in natural lighting to be able to tell the difference? Thanks.

Update:

My Camcorder is model GZ-HM300SEK. I have a Samsung 1080p HDTV.

Since we can't see what you see, and we don't know the lighting environment under which you captured the video, we have no "reference" to understand what constitutes "non-HD" in your interpretation.

As well, you did not tell us which JVC Everio HD camcorder model or the HDTV you are using.

You do not "need to record in natural lighting". Try shooting under bright sunlight conditions - or, if you have access, under bright stdio-type lighting conditions. Learn to use (and use) the white balance. Low lighting levels will cause video graininess whether HD or SD - add light.
