is forex trading a good idea?
a friend of mine does it - sometimes she loses money but not often. usually she makes money. she started with a small sum (three or four hundred, kinda thing) and she said every month she can pretty much count on making enough to pay off a few bills or buy groceries without ever having to add more money from her pocket. basically, she's partially living off the proceeds.
i opened a practice account and so far, my initial $200 in play money has more than tripled.
is it really this easy?
what am i missing?
*sigh*
"don't do it". my mother says that a lot but she never says "why" and unfortunately, i'm a gal who needs explanations.
i didn't have to ask - she has them on her coffee table with the profitable trades highlighted in green and the losses highlighted in pink. way more green than pink on each page.

It's definitely not as easy as you think, but obviously if you make the right moves and approach FX trading with a disciplined objective it can be extremely rewarding. The great thing about FX trading is that you can leverage your money a considerable amount, which does increase risk but also increases the opportunity for significantly higher rewards. The other good thing is that FX traders do not have to register with the SEC. Proceed with caution, research the subject to death and then make a decision about whether or not you feel confident enough to actively trade.

Forex is a highly liquid market, yes. It is also a very fast-moving market that is conducive to day-trading. However, it's a pretty complicated market to understand, there are a lot of crooks out there, and trading is often done on leverage, which means that a few mistakes can cause you to lose much more than you wagered originally even if you use stops. I've heard you can make good money in forex, but I would strongly suggest getting very educated about it before getting involved.

Is forex trading a good idea?
It is IF you make money. It's a bad idea if you don't.
The statistics are out there. Some 90% of the people that begin trading forex quit, or get wiped out within a week or two. Why do you think you see constant spam here touting FOREX?? Because they need new investors to replace those that quit.
Trading with a practice account means nothing. You act in a completely different way when there is REAL MONEY on the line.
I'm not going to try to talk you out of it. You appear determined to try this. Just be aware of the pit falls.

Forex is one of the hardest asset classes to make money in. In addition paper trading is never an indication of how well you'll do. Paper trading does not take into account the influence of the lack of liquidity, the effect of gaps, psychology, etc.
If you're one of the 5% that makes money in Forex..... it will, on average, take 3-5 years to be consistently profitable.

There surely is great if you have successfully tripled your money in the practice account. But what I am suggesting is that you keep doing that until it grew more than triple, quarter or even hundred times more. What I mean by this is, if you find that practicing is quite easy for you to do, then, by all means, keep doing practice account. Don't even think to make another deposit that you consider 'serious business' yet.
It is because Forex trading isn't easy at all. The market is very dynamic and always changing from time to time. It is great for you to have the 'gift' if you have it and you might want to take the maximum of it by always making the most while investing with so little amount. Isn't this exciting? If I were you, I would be more than happy to keep tripling my account every time.
Just consider this as an investment, it takes time to grows and when it grows, you will have lots and lots of cash to cover all you need in the future.
Safe trade...
