Would i get shot driving through detroit?

If you don't feel safe driving through Detroit, I suggest that you either find an alternative route or just stay off the roads because you need to be cautious when you drive anywhere because anything can happen to you while you are driving.

Surely you jest. If you're being serious, you have to realize that you won't really be cruising around the city of Detroit. Assuming you are crossing at Windsor, either the bridge or the tunnel gives you almost immediate access to I-94, which is the main thoroughfare which will take you right into Illinois. Once you have been on this road for about 40 minutes, you'll be hitting areas like Ann Arbor where you should have no problem at all stopping for munchies or refuelling. Like someone else suggested, just make sure your car is in good shape and have your cellphone with you (which is good advice no matter where you travel!).
