I get terrible calluses from lifting weights. How do I stop that from happening?

I had to stop lifting weights a month ago for personal reasons and the calluses are almost gone. I will be getting back into it soon and want to know how I can keep the calluses from returning.

Update:

Ack, I forgot to mention that I already wear gloves with decent padding.

They have weight lifting gloves and some with padding. You can even buy that white cloth that boxers use to wrap their hands before they put on their boxing gloves and that will provide some extra cushion between your hands and the weights.

Get better gloves. Gloves like shoes are not once size fits all. Go to a sporting good store and try on every pair of gloves that they have. When you find the right pair you'll know it as soon as they go on your hands. If you can't find any then go to a different store. If you're going heavy with the weights another option would be to get some lifting straps. They work great and you can use them with or with out gloves. Find someone who has experience using them to help show you the proper way to lift with them or you could end up saving your hands but hurting your wrists.

im not sure this is just a brain thought but i would figure if you reduce the amount of weight to say 60-80% of you 1 rep max then an lower your reps by roughly half you could do that for around a week or so an that should get your body time to adjust to up weights but in the realistic case you'd prolly need to get better padded gloves. like i said this is just a brain fart never really had problem with calluses

Wear gloves? Not like cloth gloves, but the ones with grip to you can lift.

you could buy the weight that have almost like a rubber padding around them... there fairly cheap and work well
