Name change after marriage?

I live in Florida. My bf and I are eloping in a few days or so, my question is how do I go about changing my last name to his? Do I do it before we get married, or just after? And how exactly do I go about doing it? Is there a document that I have to file, and can I do it the same day we get married?

Marriage License. That's what you need to change your name.

Check with your DMV and Social Security offices. They'll tell you what you need to do.

After you get married, AFTER, then you take your marriage certificate and social security card to the Social security office. The Social Security office is in charge of your identity, that is where you get your last name changed. THEN, you go to the DMV with your new social security card and get a driver's license with your new last name.

You need your marriage "certificate" not the license...the license doesn't prove you actually went ahead with the marriage...You will need the certified copy of your marriage certificate and take it to the DMV and S.S. Office.

You do that when you get your marriage license.
