Australia, the most dangerous country in the world?
So Australia has some of the most deadly and scariest creatures in the world and is known for it. The spiders, the snakes, the jellies and sharks. And then we have the weather. Australia was tormented by floods all last year and has bumped it up to a deadly level this year in Queensland. Plus bushfires that are annual occurrences in several states, and the cyclones in the northern parts of the country.
So is this one of the most dangerous countries in the world to live in?

Maybe one or two people per decade get killed by spiders, snakes, sharks or jellies, those are pretty good odds in a country of 23 million population, the floods at present are something that happens maybe once a century, yes there were some deaths maybe about 20,nowhere near as bad as that tsunami in Asia a few years back that killed 200000,the worst earthquake we had was in 1989 killed something like 7 people, not that bad compared to some countries like the one in China about 3 years ago killed about 100000,the worst bushfires in 1983 killed about 70 people and the worst cyclone in 1974 also killed about 70,compare that to the 2000 killed in hurricane katrina in USA a few years ago it doesnt sound that bad, compared to what we see happening on the news in the rest of the world most of us feel pretty safe here.

The spider and snake thing is a bit of a myth. Out of a population of 22 million, only about 1.1 people are killed by snakes per year and nobody's been killed by a spider since 1980.

There are about 4 shark deaths per year in Australia. But there must millions people swimming at Australian beaches every day in the summer, so I'd estimate your chances are pretty good (or at least, no worse than anywhere else with decent beaches).
The Black Saturday bushfire of 2009 was a terrible event in which 180 died. But aside from that horrible one off event, I think it's very rare that anybody gets killed in an Australian bushfire.
Combine all this with the 20 confirmed dead in the floods in Qld, and it still pales to insignificance compared to the annual road deaths in most Western countries.

In a natural sense, sure.
But not if we properly manage the environment that we live in. We have some element of control over the way that bushfires and floods and snakes etc affect us.
There is no control/managing the dangers of other countries. You cannot manage a drugged up guy in a rage pointing a gun at you and shooting at you and your family in the same way that you can slowly back away from a brown snake having a nap on the path in front of you.

There are heaps of dangerous animals here.
Spiders, snakes, jellyfish, sharks, crocodiles, stonefish, octopus, conefish... But generally speaking, these creatures don't feature largely in most people's lives. I've seen one red-back spider, a handful of wild snakes (seen them in zoo / animal sanctaries), one stonefish and none of the rest in the wild. I've lived in the croc & jellyfish areas and humans adapted, swimming in pools rather than the ocean...
As for the natural disasters, we have our share - cyclones, floods, storms and fires. We don't tend to get earthquakes or tornadoes and haven't had blizzards or avalanches or volcanos to deal with. And certainly not the numbers experienced in other countries...
The worst cyclones in the world, the top 10 worldwide have killed 60,000 to 500,000 each. Australia's worst killed just over 400. The 71st worst earthquake in the world killed 3000 people. We've had 1 that has been deadly, and killed 13 people.
Our murder / homicide rate is low. One and a quarter to one a half per 100,000 people. In the US it is more than 5 per 100,000. In southern Africa it is nearly 40...

Nope. Yeah we have deadly animals, but you rarely ever see them. It's just one of those stories people tell to scare people, that there are deadly animals running around everywhere. The floods are just something that doesn't happen very often, and the floods now are only in a few places.
It's kinda weird how bad things happen in other places but when it happens here we get told off (Not you other people have told me so).
This is absolutely not the most dangerous place to live here.
But the only way to actually know that is to live here and see for your self. People make up stories to scare people or because they personally don't like the place.

Australia is hardly one of the most dangerous place in the world to live. We tend not to shoot each other much and certainly not in any organised way, we don't face the daily threat of IEDs on the way to work. Our large mammals dont have large teeth and big claws and look at us longingly as food. We dont live in a country that freezes every winter and the sun doesnt go down at 430pm in the afternoon.
We havnt faced the massive loss of life on the magnitude of disasters elsewhere in the world as a consequence of natural disaster, thinking of Burma storms/flooding a few years a go, or the indonesian Tsunami or the Pakistan Floods. Australians pull together at times of hardship. At times of disaster the Australian character comes to the fore. I don't know where you are cobber but I reckon Australia is amongst the best places in the world to live.

No, Australia is actually pretty safe. Alot of people from other countries seem to think that all these dangerous creatures live in peoples houses and hotels and things. But most of them are found in there own habitat... except for red backs and stuff.. but you can easily squish them :P And doesn't every country experience Natural disasters? And in Australia, there isnt as much stabbings, bashing, murders and stuff as there is in some other countries.. So.. nah its not THAT dangerous.

um no way. yeah we have some eadly creatures BUT your unlikely to get bitten by them in normal everyday life maybe if you go out in the bush but if you go at the right time of year and have any common sense then you wont. It's not that common to get bitten by sharks while your swimming. its just as likely in many other countries it just helps that so many go to the beach here and that it gets in the news everytime. america has a cyclone and its not one of the most dangerous places and ausralia is? every country gets has something in its history, flood, fire, cyclone what ever cyclones and floods barely every happen are flood is extremely rare in most places seeing as how we are in drought. bush fires arent that bigger deal with people getting killed. of course a couple of years ago there was the big victorian bush fire but those arent very common most of the time they are just small ones. And compared to other places this is heaven we dont have people getting shot every second and we are defiately not living in fear of other people.

Hell no girl. Id say at this point in time that would be Afghanistan and iraq. there are so many more out there, try a middle eastern country especially if your a woman that's dangerous. I think America is one of the most dangerous civilised countries, at least us aussies have our gun laws right. And if we get ill, wether rich or poor we get treatment, Having a serious medical problem and being poor with no insurance and not having the 200,000 dollars plus to cover it, now thats dangerous?
