It is probably easier to research and produce a 9/11 conspiracy documentary than it is an anti-AGW conspiracy documentary. A documentary begins with research that includes data, conclusions, and commentary. The data pretty much concludes that most of the glaciers are melting, islands are disappearing, and weather patterns are changing. Of those glaciers that are building, most are doing so because of the changes in the climate and weather. In terms of political maneuvering, at least within the US, much of it is being done by those who want less environmental protection of one type or another; certainly these are the folks with the money, the lobbyists, the informational seminars with entertainment aspects, and more. If it were an easy case to prove that global warming was a completely invalid conspiracy, I am sure that the energy companies would have already exploited it; even a number of the OPEC countries are working on energy sustainability and alternative fuels for global environmental reasons.

I don't know how you can separate a belief in global warming and a belief about man's contributory involvement. On the other hand, I can assure you that my employer is not going to change my shift start or stop time so that I can take advantage of public transportation; or even to avoid rush hour traffic jams. My fellow citizens want their taxes and government services reduced which is taking a toll on the public transportation that is available, a proposal to make public buildings more energy efficient, and even access to public parks some of which may end up sold off or franchised to fast food and hotel companies. The folks I know want to know why the new fuel efficient vehicles get less than half the fuel mileage that their old budget cars got as they pay their gas card bill at the end of the month. What I see is that too many of the AGW folks are calling for an all or nothing participation level from individuals that is incongrurrant with the demands and responsibilities of their daily lives. Also, that the market place is not delivering an honestly, workable solution for main-street folks; more and more of us are falling from our upper, middle, and even lower class socioeconomic status. And, government as it has existed in recent years, is certainly perceived to not provide enough value to the individual for the amount that the individual pays; although it seems as if a companies put a lot of money into anti-tax initiatives around here. All of these and other types of factors play into benign to active denial of facts, factors, and events that appear out of our control like global warming.

Further, we have been conditioned, trained, and culturalized to only accept those things which we can identify as a problem; then the causes, solutions, and action plan to solve the problem. Global warming is being defined through a series of observations, trends, and events without a clear definition, no clear primary or secondary causes, nor a clear and complete solution. This sort of makes the problem solving rules we've all been taught difficult to apply to a readily found solution. In fact, with global warming, there probably is no solution for getting back to the way it was; and if so, was when, as in which decade or century? Certainly in the US, we like linear solutions with a clear beginning, process, and end. In much of the world and within the world of evironmental balance, life is oriented much more on a cylical basis: you start on one point on the circle, process around the circle, end about where you began only to start all over around the circle.

I suspect that eventually, this era of evrionmental denial may just become considered a tragic time in science but not for the reasons you cite. Rather, the lack of science, data, scientific understanding, and all the more will be remembered.

The reason why one hasn't been made yet by good, honest and young film makers is because they'd first have to do exhaustive research and then they'd find out really soon that there is no such thing as an AGW Conspiracy.

What there is is lots of hype, lots of propaganda and loads of misinformation, distortions, quoting out of context and outright lying coming from the people who endlessly claim AGW is a conspiracy.

There are thousands of homemade "it's a hoax" videos about AGW on Youtube. Feel free to waste your hours watching uninformed biased garbage created by people who have never taken a science class beyond Science Class. Reality and the vast majority of scientists who support AGW can move on without you.

Although I do think you have an interesting point as to why Loose Change was so much more popular than the hoard of other 9/11 conspiracy theory videos. I remember watching it a few years ago and wasn't impressed, it was just the same hackneyed and long debunked talking points. Not too dissimilar from what you get with the "AGW hoax" videos.

My guess is that young people were drawn to Loose Change because it was created by young people, and people are drawn to people who are like them. Some kind of grandiose fantasy to see someone who is like us solving great mysteries or problems in the world, of being the little guy against a huge evil corrupt government. It might be a highly attractive fantasy--hence the huge numbers of conspiracy theorists out there ("half" of Americans inclusive)--but it is still a fantasy. And a highly paranoid one at that.
