Vet ast. terminology Suffixes?

There is a part in book that is about Medical Suffixes can some help me, The Suffix -Ac in my book is writen like this..... -Ac . as in the example cardiac ( pertaining to the heart) .....Now does that mean the suffix -Ac =Cardiac or -Ac= Heart.

    -ac means "pertaining to". while cardi means heart. So another example would be amnesiac (or literally pertaining to amnesia).
