Are spelling and grammar even taught in school anymore?

I don't know, but I see people leave words out of sentences out of pure laziness, "abbreviate" words to a longer form than the original just because it's cooler I assume, use constant smiley faces and asterisks, and I hear my mother talk and it's like she's becoming uneducated, and my little brother is learning from that because he's around her, and the elementary english teacher doesn't even teach about English, all they care about is reading, which is a huge part of your mindframe don't get me wrong, but it's not the most important part of a child's literary path. I think the teachers make it easier for the students, and it's going to keep getting that way. Every chance I get to correct someone I take it, and my family is full of idiots, hell the whole world is. It's hard to actually find an intelligent person to talk to, much less that understands humor. All girls want to do is drool over guys, complain about themselves, or make everyone else in the world think they're just a drunken toy, and all guys want to do is play videogames, get laid, or hang out with their guys. To find someone NOT in that category, it's a miracle.

They are not connecting the spelling and grammar with real life. You may study French in school but never use it outside. Do I dare mention trigonometry?
