There are a few things you should try.
1) Check the network information. If the SSID (name) of the network is set to not be broadcast, then wireless devices won't see it, and you have to type in the name of it yourself. Usually you can do that in Advanced, or Other Network, or some such button.
2) Are you sure your desktop is able to get wireless? Most desktop computers don't, and it would have to be specially done to be able to. Connect it directly to your router with an ethernet cord to make sure it's able to get internet at all, and if you can you'll know it's definitely an issue with the wireless. Then try connecting wirelessly with some other device to make sure it's the computer's wireless problem and not your router.
3) Check your BIOS settings to make sure wireless isn't disabled in there. Access to it is generally done by restarting the computer and hitting F2 while the computer is booting up. On a desktop I don't even know that there will be a wireless section, but it's a good thing to check.
Good luck, and if you find anything out more specific I could give better advice, so send me a message.
