When can I start potty training my son?

My little boy, Nathan is almost 19 months. Lots of parents of boys have told me that boys usually start later with potty training than girls, but he is my first son. I have two daughters and they started potty training at 2 years and 20 months. It is Summer here in Australia so I feel it's the perfect time, but I'm not sure. He gets annoyed if he has a dirty nappy (diaper) on and wants to take it off. Should I start now or wait?

If he's getting annoyed at having a dirty nappy, then that's a sign he's ready to begin potty training. He's learnt its uncomfortable - and therefore will probably take some interest in the potty.

it's summer, so he can mooch around the garden in only a tee-shirt and some underwear, so there is little hassle in cleaning up.

(It's so much harder training in the winter - all those layers of clothes!)

surely if he's showing interest in the potty, then it really is okay for him to commence. even as he sits on the potty, you ought to tell him that the potty chair is for potty in simple terms. And if he's sitting on it with a diaper, he has to get off. Then attempt to coax him to take his diaper off so he can sit down on the potty. If he needs to do it, initiate preparation. If no longer, then possibly he in simple terms concept it grow to be a cool position to sit down down. Having your daughter already potty educated, may be an exceedingly good aspect too. she can help. The more advantageous he sees her utilizing the potty, the more advantageous he will favor to do a similar. It worked for my 3 youngest sons. all of them were potty educated earlier they were 2, in simple terms because they had to placed on the large boy pants like their huge brother.

I think to try whenever you think he is ready!

I also agree the earlier the better but if you try and he doesnt want to then dont push it.

its good to let him run around out the back with no pants on so he gets the feeling of not having the security of a nappy.

My son started at 2 and it took a yr to get fully toilet trained.

If he is annoyed with a nasty diaper and can tell you it is yuck then by all means go for it. There is no set age for potty training because every kid is different.
