How does this look for my aquarium?

I have recently bought a Juwel Rio 180 litre aquarium and is going through the start up cycle.

The fish i would like are:

4x Tiger Barb

4x Albino Tiger Barb

5x Blue Rainbowfish

5x Rosy Barb

2x Kribensis

3x Upside Down Catfish

Just wondering if this is too much and if so what numbers could i have in there or diffent types of fish.

Many Thanks.

You're talking about 23 fish for about a 40 gallon aquarium after the inclusion of rocks, gravel and other accoutrements. That's a lot of fish.

It is customary to keep 1 to 2 inches of fish length per gallon of fresh water, or 1 inch of fish length per gallon of salt water in a marine aquarium. I have personally been successful in stretching that limit with much older established aquaria, but I don't recommend it for the average aquarist.

You're probably coming very close to the limit and I recommend adding them only a few at a time and then waiting 2-3 weeks between additions, or else you could stress your aquarium fairly quickly, resulting in a bunch of dead fish. Be sure to keep a close eye on the nitrogen cycle (ammonia, nitrite and nitrate) during that time.

That is alot for your tank size.. Remember the rule of 1-2 inches of fish per gallon, and this is there adult size. I try to stay closer to 1 inch a gallon myself, you'll find you have alot less problems, especially in a new tank. The upside down catfish and kribensis can both be 4 inches as adults.. so those 5 fish is 20inches already nearing a good tank load. Im not really sure how big the blue rainbow fish get. keep in mind that anyone that tells you a fish will stay small in a small tank has no clue what there talking about.

Whatever you decide to add, remember to add no more then 3-5 fish at a time, I would start with the 4 tiger barbs and give them a good 2 weeks before adding the next batch. a beautiful tank takes time, if you rush it, you'll run into problems. And good for you for cycling your tank and taking the time to do some research before dumping a bag full of random fish in to your new tank. Good luck :)
