Why do some hold to the lie that there "are no moral absolutes"?
Morality has a measuring rod: The LORD.......it begins and ends with Him. We do NOT create our own morality - God's laws are what govern us.
So why do some adhere to the lie that morality is based on anything else other than God?
Ok so.....in that case, if I go out and murder someone, why is it considered murder? Who set the standard? Who's to say it's wrong - man or the LORD? There HAS to be a standard - and that standard comes from God

Because they don't know God's Word and don't WANT to know it. They want to live according to their own desires without having to answer to the Creator - something they might be able to do for awhile, but eventually, they will answer.

I agree. That's why God gave the 10 commandments to Moses. Because everyone was doing what was right in their own eyes and it wasn't always in agreement with what God desired. God gave the law which showed what morality was. If there is no standard, no boundaries, it becomes lawlessness.
Edit: In Nigeria, there were white lines on the road, like here but at times people didn't pay any attention to them and it became a big traffic nightmare as a result of the lawlessness. There has to be a rule of the road or no one gets anywhere, the same is true in life.

"Morality has a measuring rod: The LORD.......it begins and ends with Him. We do NOT create our own morality - God's laws are what govern us."
Sounds great. As soon as you show that your god exists, and not the other thousand or so that are out there, your question will carry some weight.
However, if YOU need to believe in a god in order to act in a moral manner, then I encourage you to continue doing so. I would rather you not go into a murderous rampage.

Tell that to the cops when they come to arrest you and take you away to federal "pound me in the ***" prison.
If you are truly so deluded as to not comprehend that your actions have tangible, immediate consequences, reinforced both by society and by the government under which you live, then I suggest you never breed.

Because they as Adam and Eve choose self reliance and take what only belongs to Jehovah. The right to say what is right and wrong. However, Just because they don't acknowledge the fact that it only belongs to Jehovah to direct humans, it doesn't take away the consequences of there actions and the rightful judgment that will follow. As you have seen from peoples comments, this scripture holds true. Romans 1:24-32Â 24Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them, 25even those who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and venerated and rendered sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; 27and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.
28And just as they did not approve of holding God in accurate knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mental state, to do the things not fitting, 29filled as they were with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, badness, being full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malicious disposition, being whisperers, 30backbiters, haters of God, insolent, haughty, self-assuming, inventors of injurious things, disobedient to parents, 31without understanding, false to agreements, having no natural affection, merciless. 32Although these know full well the righteous decree of God, that those practicing such things are deserving of death, they not only keep on doing them but also consent with those practicing them.

Prove it.
*shrugs*
It's just as easy for me to say that you are perpetuating a lie by insisting there is such a thing as god, or that the morality from a badly translated Bronze age book of Middle-eastern myths applies to todays world in any sense.
I don't think you can show that morality is in any sense an absolute, nor can you prove that there's a god.
Until you do those things, you're just blowing hot air.

Kid... show me a moral 'absolute' and I'll show you where your imaginary friend broke it AND when and where it's okay for any man to break it.
Don't be woof-woofing that "God's laws are what govern us" boolshit.
I think we can agree The Goat Herders’ Guide to the Galaxy is an outdated document, so why do we let Christians get away with calling it a book of morals? We don't pass a widow around her husbands' brothers anymore, kill pregnant women from a tribe of disbelievers, etc., so why not call them out for what the Bible really says?
Bibel is full of questionable morality like raping women captured in war and beating slaves and killing children; I'm sick of defending my values to your kind.

By your question, I can tell that my answer will shock you and I believe, you are probably a well meaning Christian. In short, the Christians are the problem because they know the Scriptures and yet they are NEVER taught to shed "light" and if the light of the world does not need light then of course those in unbelief will not believe in Heaven or hell. To correct this, "We" who believe must shed light and PROVE what we believe and the best way to do that when you are speaking is this. Tell people, the invisible Kingdom of Christ is in Heaven and to the east of our Republican wing. Hell or Lucifer's earthly Kingdom is to the west of our Democrat wing and all AMERICANS are in the flesh and in between. Once people understand we are facing Christ and his Kingdom or we are facing hell by choice, morals will change in the individual because God did not create stupid people. People only need light from the invisible Kingdom as we will all face the King of the East that is in Heaven on day in the future and we might as well face that down here on earth NOW.

Easy, if you assert that morality is subjective, then you can make the rules up as you go.
Morality is objective, and is actually strong evidence that God exists.
Here's the most common and WORST argument that atheists make:
"Society tells us what is morally acceptable and what is not. In some circumstances some things are acceptable, in others the same thing may not be acceptable."
That's great, the person who wrote this just defended Hitler and Nazi Germany. Congrats.

When pressed, almost everyone recognizes there are moral absolutes.
Is it sometimes all right to rape a child? Should homosexuals sometimes be put to death? Are there circumstances when it's fine to burn the rain forest?
We all believe in moral absolutes when such issues are clarified.
Cheers,
Bruce

It works as a principle in life; the extremes where it does not work are easily handled by living with two (or more) world views or concepts of reality. Consistency is over-rated when it comes to making important life decisions.
The idea that all must share thoughts and agree is an unnecessary restriction on living.
