why are 14000k hqi reef lights not as blue as 14000k automotive hids?

150w hqi lights for the aquarium have a blue tint to them but a 14000k hid on automotives looks pure blue.

Update:

No Dan. One, reef lighting is not made to have full spectrum as ocean water filters out most spectrum except for blue before it reaches many coral. This is why marine tanks use actinic lighting. For instance, red will only reach to about 10 feet in water. This filtering is why pools appear blue. A full spectrum light would have closer to kelvin of the sun being just under 5800k.

I am not an expert on tank lighting but i did some research for you and the main reasoning that the tint is not as strong is because the hqi reef lighting is designed to provide a full spectrum of color needed for reef growth.

Because of the way light interacts with its self, the more wavelengths included the lighter the tint of your lighting. I hope this helps you out some.
