finally someone who knows proper english! It's called a full-stop people. Not a period. Just like a pound sign is really called an octothorpe

I live in the US and learned to call it a period, but I still prefer full stop. Punctuation was invented as instructions to actors in ancient Greece, to tell them how long to pause, a "period" being a whole note (ancient Greek Drama was sung as much as spoken), a colon being a three quarter not, a semi-colon being the half note, and a comma being the quarter note. Thus, full stop makes the most sense.

In the UK it's usually called a Full Stop. However the U.S. it's always just called a period.
Fun Fact: The three/four dots is called an"ellipsis". :D
