There are no words that I - or anyone can say that can justify the needless poverty and horrendous lifestyle these third world countries have. I've been told that I am often quite emotionally detached and somewhat unsympathetic. I do have quite a misanthropic point-of-view on humanity, and that video is just one reason why I have this outlook.
The reason why there is so much suffering is because there are nearly 7 billion people in the world. Many live in MEDCs (More Economically Developed Countries), and us residents of MEDCs are not only destroying the resources of third world countries (take a look at the division and strip-down of Africa's natural materials for example), but are destroying our own as we consume resources at an alarming rate. This is because there are simply too many of us for the world to consistently sustain. But even amongst this severe depletion, we still needlessly waste. I'm not completely sure of the exact figures, but I believe that around only 70% of the United States' wheat belts are in fact bought/consumed, and the other 30% or so is simply thrown away or destroyed, simply because donating them to charity would cost them too much money. Wealth and glittering things = Humanity's bane.
Additionally, the More Economically Developed World is so focused on religious doctrines that they receive heavy financial support to spend on needless things. Take the Roman Catholic church for example. Their churches are so lavishly decorated with needlessly expensive materials, yet at the end of they day...it's just a building. I'm an Atheist, and I can understand why some people may feel the need to be part of a religious community, but I think it's utter selfishness that some churches would spend thousands on religious ornaments. Yeah marble statues of Mary and the Saints look pretty, but is a piece of stone worth more than a handful of children?
As a solution, I would suggest a one child per couple policy. If it were to work then the population would steadily decrease, and in correlation the demand for natural resources would decrease. Therefore leaving enough resources and materials to be used as a support-line for others. As a result the aid will help develop third world countries into a more live-able environment. But of course this will never come to fruition as many people (especially the very religious) will disagree with me here, and state that the only way to maintain the one child policy is through Draconian law, such as forceful neutering, and even abortion. But I'm sure there are plenty of alternative options out there, but most of them would require serious donation of wealth, and of course MEDCs are plagued with greed and will not spare a penny so willingly.
