Need some help wiith amp installation..?
I recently installed an old Sherwood XA-1140 in my truck and it's been acting funky. When just the positive and negative power wires are connected, the amp gets about 13.5 volts, however when I hook up the yellow remote signal (which is required for the amp to power up) to +12 volts (It's a factory radio and doesn't have a yellow signal wire of its own), the amp voltage goes down to roughly 3 volts. I will double check that all my speaker input and outputs are right but I doubt that's the problem. I really want this to work because I've done all the work of installing it. Thanks in advance for your help.
@ 02Cavvy. Thanks a lot I'll check tomorrow and make sure my wires are properly connected because it's late now.
Update: First of all disregard the "i only have 3 volts to my amp" bullcrap. Lol I had a special moment: Obviously it went down to 3 volts because the amp DID turn on and it used a voltage drop of 10 or so volts of 13 volts. But, it still is being funky. I tried out the amp indoors with a DC adapter(~14 volts) and connected it to my stereo system's radio and it worked excellent. I think my truck just doesn't put out enough power. I'll try running a thick wire straight from the battery to the amp because now I have it connected to a wire under the seat that is 13 volts but I don't really know where its coming from.
Also, my amp is a 2-channel and it has a SPEAKER-LEVEL(for factory systems) input and a regular LOW-LEVEL, PRE-AMP OUTPUT(for aftermarket systems) input. When I tried the AV cable/ low-level input in my room it worked and the other input didn't. I'll try it again later.

That's strange b/c I've never heard of an amp dropping voltage b/c it gets the turn-on signal. It might be the amp going bad/being messed up b/c if you have the power and ground done correctly and have a 18awg turn-on lead you should be fine. Just go back and check your wiring and if problems still persist post a new question about the issue and be sure to include any new information regarding the issue.
