Why are so many African Americans Democrats when it was Democrats who supported slavery in the south and.....?

and it was democrats who supported segregation during the civil rights movement back in the 60's?

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?i%E2%80%A6

They have the right to their own opinion and the party that they are a part of but why would they want to be with the party who wanted slavery and segregation?

Because the only part of the slavery issue people tend to remember is that "white people did it". Due to social trends, the large majority of the black community became impoverished and lower income areas. Well, the democratic party has historically supported(Relatively recent history) programs to help those with lower income. The short answer is people can't think back very far and don't really care to. All they(this statement encompasses everyone and not just the social group in question) tend to care about is the here and now.

Most blacks used to be Republican at one time, mainly prior to the 1960's.

You also fail to realize that the Democratic & Republican parties then aren't the same as the parties today. Southern Democrats were Conservatives. Northern Republicans were Liberals. This slowly began to change. Blacks started moving to Democrats during FDR's New Deal programs which aided blacks. And by the 60's when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act, and ran against Republican Barry Goldwater who voted against the Civil Rights Act. Many disenfranchised Southern Democrats began to move to the Republican Party to support Goldwater, and even moreso when Nixon enacted his "Southern Strategy".

You Cons are simply uneducated on the issues, or in denial - Conservatives were the Segregationists - that's why most Blacks are Democrats today. If the party ideologies didn't change, then Blacks would still be Republicans.

You probably should do some study of political history and the history of political party's before you embarrass your self again. Trying to show your intelligence by flaunting your ignorance doesn't work. Only for Palin, because of the ignorance of her fans which I'm betting your one. King Matthew is a classic example.

  • Because the Democratic party turned into the party of hand outs to special interest groups based on race, sex, sexual preference and heredity. Just what the government was supposed not to do under the Constitutional concept of equal rights under the law. Instead they support special rights for particular groups.

Because people like sharpton, jackson and rangle have duped them. The media has duped them. Be honest---the media plays right along with the democratic socialist party.

Things change, parties change. With all the hate and rhetoric from the Right today, I'm not surprised that Latinos are registering as Democrats as well.

That totally makes sense that blacks would vote predominantly democrat all the time because they supported segregation. You totally make sense, and aren't cherry picking information that suits your needs, while ignoring other information at all. Great job!

Shh...the media doesn't want you to know that they used to be a group of bandits who lynched people because of their skin color.

Enjoying an individuated thought process that isn't dictated by a deeper level of melanin.

And hopefully, unlike yourself, armed with a history book and political context.
