Can you gain weight if you eat salads?
I love, love Souper Salad and I was wondering can you gain weight if you eat a ton of salad? When I go there,I eat a ton of salad, that has lettuce, carrots, broccoli, onions, black olive, celery, mushrooms on it. I don't ever use any salad dressing just plain salad and I worry because I will eat this until I can't eat anymore and I am afraid can I gain weight if I continue to eat like this when I go there and I have water with my salad. I just want to make sure becasue I go overboard...thanks in advance!

Kelly, go for it! Pig out on it!! Seriously. Even put a little dressing on it if you want to. Aside from maybe the olives(?), there's nothing fattening amongst the ingredients you've listed. But even if you had said there was somthing like avocado in there (which does have a relatively high fat content), many people would disagree but I'd have said you'd still be fine. I'm a believer in natural, unprocessed foods over highly-processed every time. Your body does need fat, and getting it form natural sources such as eggs, fish, nuts, yes even avocado, is much better for your body than going for the highly-processed 99% fat free rubbish you'll find packaged up in plastic and cardboard at the supermarket. Our bodies know how to process natural foods, and by giving your body all the protein, vitamins and other nutrients it needs, it won't feel starved of those things and you're more likely to feel full when you've had enough.
One of the worst things people who are worried about their weight do to their bodies is to go without food when they're hungry. This actually sends starvation messages to your brain, and your body will kick into starvation mode and start trying to store as much fat as it can. So if you enjoy eating healthy salad as you've described, eating until you're full is going to be much better for you than trying to cut back.
So enjoy! Guilt free!!!

You would gain weight only if you ate too much of it, especially stuff like black olives, again, as someone mentioned earlier, you would have to eat a LOT of it (which is not going to happen, trust me). I think that it's a great idea to eat a lot of salad (and water) because it has a lot of important nutrients. If you have recently started, then you may notice a difference in your skin as well! I started having a vegetable juice (1 glass) everyday along with 8 cups of water and my skin started to glow!
Also, you might have heard of the word "negative calories". While it's impossible to have negative calories, your body does have to a lot of hard work to digest all the salad, so it burns calories to digest the food (it burns enough to make your salad not count too much). Therefore, this is most likely going to help you LOSE weight, not gain it, since you feel full and therefore don't eat much junk/too many calories because of it.

No. The fresh vegetables and fresh fruits will not add fat to your body if you lead a normal or active life. You're doing great if you eat a ton of salad because not only does lettuce not have any fat in it (or rather not enough to register any significance in a human diet) it is great for cleaning your colon. If you're taking in less calories a day than you burn you'll lose weight and vice versa. However, depending on what you put on your salad you could gain weight. Lots of dressings have tons of fat in them. Croutons have saturated fat and carbs in them too so be careful.

I think that's absolutely amazing that you love salads so much! I hate them but force myself to eat them because of their health benefits...ugh...
Anyhow, as long as the salads you're eating have the ingredients you mentioned NO you won't gain weight. Getting full off of green leafy salads and healthy vegetables is the best way to NOT gain weight.
It may feel like you ate a lot because of all the greens, but that's the beautiful thing about vegetables. They're loaded with fiber which makes you feel full faster.
For example, if you ate 500 calories worth of lettuce (which is a BUNCH), you'd be extremely full and that may not be possible as a head of lettuce has around 90 calories. That's over five heads of lettuce to reach 500 calories.
As long as all the other foods you eat are healthy and you're not eating a bunch of calories a day you won't gain weight.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!
