Hi, I get massages about twice a month and have done so for about 10 yrs. When I look for a massage therapist, I do consider the price they charge, but most important to me is feeling comfortable and safe with them. They must be discrete as well. After that, I like the ones who REALLY listen to me when they ask me my likes and dislikes & if I have any areas that are especially sensitive. I have filled out numerous forms they have and they read them the first time, but almost always never review them each time I have an appointment, and I think they should. I am very sensitive behind my knees & hate to be massaged there, but I always have to remind them of that & it gets old. I also like therapists who don't mind if I ask them to lessen or increase the pressure. One top pet peeve is that I do not like to feel like I have to talk during the massage. I know it must get boring for them to have silence the whole time, except for the music, but most people get a massage to release the stress of their day, and we just want to zone out for awhile and almost fall asleep if we can! I don't mind a few minutes when I first arrive to chat a bit and answer questions such as how are you or did you have a nice holiday, etc. We get a massage because we hurt or are stressed and we need to have peace & quiet, we want to feel pampered and it's something we do to spoil ourselves because we really need it! Also, I am a woman and I never want anyone male or female to ask me if I want my breasts massaged! NO!
I have a wonderful massage therapist who listens and he's the best at giving great neck massages. I just had a massage today and I'm totally relaxed and happy as a clam. I need deep tissue massage and he's great with that.
