going goin back back to cali cali, need some tips and info. 10 points to good info?

sorry for the long script but bear with me, for the past 3 years i've been facinated with SoCal and either this summer or next summer i'll be headin out your way to Long beach. I was just wondering what the road/travel situation is like out there, i hear its terrible but what is the deal with parking and what should i expect when parking and driving and could i experience LA in two weeks- 1 month? One thing i plan on doing is going to alot of the eateries and such around LA that are famous and the unheard of that LA is famous for such as Phillipe's, el tepeyac, pinks, fat burger, In-N-Out, apple pan, Umami burger, Roscoe's etc. I also want to hang on the beach, mainly swimming and fishing; i was wondering in june/july if its that cold in the ocean and where good Beach's are (not that crowded), and whats the pier fishing like and how i can do it (license and what i can catch and keep etc). Also whats some fun things to do in LA, i got places like the getty, muholland drive, queen mary 2, la brea tar pits etc. just any advice you can give such as places to eat, go, tourist traps etc. I'm gonna head out there with about a grand, I got a house to stay at in LBC so would a grand be enough (minus 220ish for gas for the one way trip there from St. Louis). i got a pretty good plan for the trip so far, and i know that alot of the LA stuff is hollywood and its not all the glitz and glam like in the movies so i'm realistic about that, but any advice would be nice. One last thing, are there any sky scrappers I can go in and onto the top?

Looks like you have already done some good research and that you have quite a bit of time to do some more before your trip. If you live in St. Louis you know rush hour traffic jams already, they just last much longer here. Parking is indeed a problem...there isn't enough and it is quite expensive almost anywhere.

The ocean is cold, to us anyway, all year round. Many people wear wet suits. Our ocean current comes from Alaska, not the Gulf like on the East coast. Fish on the piers all you like a lot of people do...I don't get it, personally. The fishing people look umm "scruffy" and the fish look worse, to me anyway. No way would I eat something like that...

I think the top of the tall downtown buildings are not accessible...a lot have heliports on them, but others at this site probably know a lot more about than I.

Source(s): Congratulations, you have put more thought into a visit here than most people have put into moving here. Good Job....

    Traffic is terrible.

Parking is OK where I live in the OC, it's really easy. In Long Beach, it depends where you are.

In June, you can get quite a bit of fog, expecially near the coast. They call it June Gloom.

The ocean really doesn't warm up until July. All beaches are crowded then. But if you go to the farthest parts of the beach, they are not too crowded. For example, about a half mile from the Santa Monica Pier (north), there is hardly anyone.

Fishing off the pier is free. No license needed. You can catch any fish except Garibaldi (no real chance of that, though). Mostly you'll find mackerel, cod, and such.

Read some of my other posts for all the info on where to go. It's too long to post here, now that I've answered your other questions.

LA isn't known for its skyscrapers. It's known for its endless suburban sprawl.

If you want a view, go to Griffith Park.

No in case you do the maths, which I did, it would already be at your place, or a minimum of tremendously much there. I t has already left california a whilst in the past... properly i assume it won't be at your place, reason i do no longer the place you reside...

I'll give you a tip when you come to Cali, Cali. DON'T call our state "CALI". Cali is a drug city in Colombia, South America, and many Californians find using that word to describe our state insulting. Most of us refer to California as "Cal". Besides, if you call our state Cali it's like tattooing the word TOURIST on your forehead.
