Anyone who has known someone with Alzheimer's?

What stage do they start wandering and talking in singsong nonsense? How long before they become helpless?

There are many types of Dementia, Alzheimer's is only one cause of Dementia. There are stages of Alzheimer's Disease. Often they are not well delineated and can overlap one another, as well. A very general rule of thumb: From diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease to death is anywhere from 7-10 years. Some types of dementia do not entail wandering, however most dementias do entail nonsensical speech at some point. Much information is available on line or through a local Alzheimer's Association.

There are many, many different types of Alzheimer's, and nobody can generalize about when certain things will happen. Some people have it for years, and never wander or become helpless. There is no time-line that can be followed - try a Google search and read some of the many web sites that educate families about it - they are very good.

Some strains moves swiftly and others cause only slight changes over the year. Only a doctor can predict after careful diagnosis but sometimes a slow moving strain can morph into another form. With Alzheimers there are no absolutes except that -for now - there is no cure.

No two given cases of Alzheimer's are exactly the same. Your answer needs to come from her doctor. I don't know at what stage, but I think this stage is nearer the end stage than the middle.

Depends on the individual and when they were diagnosed and which stage they are currently experiencing..My mother has Alzheimers and is in stage 6.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alzheimer%27s_disease --- good data here----

Have, in the past year had two sisters leave this dimension ---

one had senile dementia--- one Alzheimer's Disease.

Alzheimer's progression was slow for perhaps three years, then progressed

rapidly the next two years. Speaking gibberish---perhaps last year.

Senile dementia took six years and only the last six months

    was she really forgetful.

One can not diagnose, accurately the effects on individuals, from my experience.
