How can we get rid of old books?

We're trying to clean out the house, and we found a TONNNN of old books, some completely worthless, others in really bad shape, and some pretty darn good. The majority of them tend to be the really really heavy textbooks back in schooldays that teach a lot of grammar and a ton of construction information. Can I still donate all of these types of books to agencies like the VVA or Goodwill?

Update:

Are you guys sure? Like 4th Grade Reading books? SAT Princeton Review for the year 1999? Introduction to Concrete? You're telling me that libraries and, more importantly, Goodwill will take these?!

If they're in poor shape, recycle them by tearing covers off and putting the paper pages in the recycle bin. If they're in good shape, donate them. If you have doubts about Goodwill taking them, you can always keep the doubtful ones in a separate box and ask when you drop them off. There are also, often, local book sales that sell all kinds of books annually to raise money. Google "book sale Springfield" or whatever your town or the nearest big town is. Used book sellers might take some though you're unlikely to get much money for them, if any. One bookstore around here gives a credit for used books to spend in the store.

Never underestimate what we book lovers will buy. I have a few books that were used when I was in school, for nostalgia's sake. Grammar, in spite of what we see written everywhere, is not dead and books about it can still be used. Sometimes books are sent overseas by charities. Last but not least, I used to work in movies and we used enormous quantities of books at times to decorate sets. If we couldn't rent them, we scoured used book stores for them.

Donate the good ones to hospitals, I also leave books in emergency room waiting areas. I've been stuck there for hours at a time and was grateful to find reading material. Libraries may take the educational books, some have yearly sales to get rid of their old ones.

Donate them to your local library. In SF, CA we have a huge sale the money goes back to the library.

    Goodwill will like them too.

Or just put it out, maybe someone will pick them up.

I find books all over the place in the city.

perhaps you are able to desire to be sure if any nursing residences or rec centers on your section would desire to apply them. Or promote them at a backyard sale? the place I artwork we've a e book substitute table in our smash room, human beings herald books they do no longer want from now on and that they are unfastened for the taking for all people that desires them. That way many human beings get to get excitement from them. in case you haven't any longer something like this why no longer start up one?

If you have time to sort them, separate text books from fiction.

Try a used text book store associated with a local college.

Donate any decent ones to church rummage sales.

Books that are too old or damaged can be recycled.

    Try approaching a paper dealer.

Donate the good ones and toss the bad ones into a paper recycling bin/service.

Put them out for the trash. Libraries won't take used books. Haven't you heard of the bedbug scare?

Have a good oldfashioned bookburning and invite the neighbors over to roast some dogs and marshmellows over it...the fumes from the musty books gives a nice rich flavor to anything roasted over it
