Baby allergic to dogs?
My friend has had a Beagle for a very long time. Now him and his wife had a daughter. They found out she is allergic to the dog. What can they do instead of getting rid of the baby I mean dog.

If they want to try keeping the dog you can do a few things to limit the reactions. Bath once a week with a good deep conditioning shampoo like Max and Milly to strengthen the coat and keep the dogs skin as dander free as possible. Brush the dog daily for no less than 30 minutes, feed a high omega food. All this will reduce dander and hair loss. Keep the dog out fo the babies room always. Use a room humidifier to reduce dander in the air one that also has a purifier helps to.
all this is if the child's symptoms are minimal. If severe or causing issues you will need to re home. Know that once the dog goes the allergy symptoms will almost always become worse with each new introduction to a dog so it isn't always best to remove the dog if the symptoms are manageable.
Source(s): 20 yrs in rescue My husband grew up his entre life with cats. He laways had mild allergies to them. He moved out of his parents home and now can not even breath in a house that has a single cat in it. Once he left the cat house his body went in over drive making antibodies against them. Same with my younger son. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Whoa--that might not be avoidable. Allergic reactions get stronger with each subsequent exposure (like the 1st time you are stung by a bee, you're NOT allergic, it sensitizes you, the second time you're stung, you have reaction, 3rd time, you have a reaction, and every time after that the reaction gets worse and worse.) With a dog, the baby will just get more and more allergic to it as time goes on. The baby could get VERY ill with asthma or have super bad systemic reactions. Beagles also are a high potency allergen dog. I had a baby brother who was allergic to our Boston Terrier. Once he had to go to the hospital (6 mos' old) by ambulance because he was turning blue he had asthma so bad. On top of that, when the ambulance came, they couldn't get the stretcher in the front door because my friends and I had built a humogous snow man on the front porch. Back to the dog and the baby--they probably have to rehome the dog, and clean all their furniture, carptet, mattresses and clothing. My mom got new carpet, because it was wool, which also was an allergen. Kids allergic to dogs can have some pretty serious, life threatening reactions and side effects.

sadly they have to rehome the dog ... with the baby reacting this early in life, it is a serious allergy which will only get worse ... maybe there is a family member or friend that could take the dog so they could still know the dog but the dog does need to be removed from the home ...

I'm a great believer in rescue organizations rather than humane shelters, and I suggest strongly that your friend gets in touch with Beagle rescue and turns in the dog. These groups foster their turnins until a home (thoroughtly researched by the rescue group) agrees to adopt the dog.
Do a google search for "beagle rescue" and find the one closest to your friend. They will take it from there.
ADD ON..I see you are in Australia. I don't know if there are any rescue groups there.

It isn't fair to the baby to require it to be on injections and medications for its whole life due to allergies to something you have the power to prevent.
You rehome the dog -period.
Your children always have to come before a pet. To keep a pet when you know it makes your child sick is a very selfish thing to do. But some people just suck as parents, and they have their priorities all out of order.
