Tips for a applying for a job.?

I'm 18 and I will be starting Community College in February. I've never had a job but I really need one, so I desperately need some tips.

Is it better to apply online or in person? I know for certain jobs, I will have to apply in person, so what do I need to wear? And do I fill out the application there or turn it in the next day?

And when applying in person, what do I do? Do I go up to one of the employees and ask for an application or do I ask for a manager and then ask for an application? And do I still apply if they aren't hiring or do I ask them if they're hiring?

I just really need some good tips.

Thanx

    1) Good for you for going to college.

    2) Most companies mostly take applications online unless you're going to work in small community stores, but even Walmart has their applications online. Few places have applicants apply in person, but I don't know what things are like in your area. Always fill out the application ON THE SPOT and meet with the manager if you can. You always want to put a name with your face if you're already there. Get your 30 second "about me" speech ready for hiring managers because that's all the time you'll have to plug yourself.

Also, when you can, try to know what position you're applying for and mention that to the hiring manager or whoever is taking your application BUT TRY TO BE ABLE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PERSON WHO DOES THE HIRING. "Hello, my name is "Karen" and I'm applying for XYZ position. I'm studying for my degree in ABC and hoped you could use someone with my experience" or something like that. You say what feels right for you, but don't walk away without saying anything and just leave it up to them.

Wear a skirt (NOT TOO SHORT) maybe just above the knee with 2 to 3 inch heels or business type shoes. Nice blouse, maybe a string of pearls and pearl earrings adds a nice touch of maturity and professionalism OR any understated jewelry.

IMPORTANT: If you're walking in and asking if they're hiring, never ask an employee that. Always ask a manager. The reason why is because employees don't make the decisions and for all they know, someone may be getting fired and they actually ARE looking for someone new. So always ask a manager. GOOD LUCK!!!

For applying in person, you dont have to ask the manager for a job app. You can ask any employer for one. I am pretty sure you can get one if they arent hiring, so they know who is looking for one. Its defiently ok to ask if they are so you know if you would be excepting something from them soon or not. Dress decently nice. (no sweats, no pjs, no clothes showing too much, etc) and of course be polite when asking for an app.

    Good luck. :)

I would go back 10 years in the past when it could be still possible to get a job
