How does a responsible gun owner answer these questions?
1. What purpose does a 6-15 shot handgun serve to the average private citizen?
2. If it takes you 6 or more shots to stop something, are you really a good enough shot to be considered responsible?
3. How do you ensure that no one other than you gets a hold of your weapon 24 hours a day, 365 days a year?
4. If you have multiple firearms how can they be in your possession at all times since each person only has 2 hands?
5. What plan do you have for making sure that your guns never get into the hands of an irresponsible person after you die?
6. Could you swear under oath that you have never fired a weapon in an irresponsible or unlawful manner?
7. Have you ever in your life to date had to brandish or fire your weapon for the purpose of personal protection or the protection of another person?
8. If you believe that the 2nd amendment guarantees your right to bear arms, are you prepared to serve in a state organized militia on a moments notice?
9. If the purpose of an armed public is for them to serve as a well regulated militia, then what did we form the armed forces for? The Constitution only called for the Navy, presumably to prevent the enemy from getting here so the militia wouldn't have to deal with them.
Gotta say, the anti gun control crowd seem to prefer not to even think about the other side of the coin. At least the anti gay marriage and anti abortion folks take the time to see the other side's perspective and come up with reasons to counter every argument. Must come from knowing you can shoot anyone that disagrees with you enough to try and change the status quo.
Kathryn, in response to #8, I don't care who you sleep with or love, and as long as your disability doesn't affect your ability to aim and fire, then take cover to avoid getting your a** blown off you are free to join my militia.
Trader, so you only think we should hold sacred the part of the 2nd amendment that you like?
Vin, the Constitution is a living document and subject to change by amendment at the will of the people, when it gets changed by the government to reflect the wishes of people like me, too bad for you.
Orange, No i have never fired a weapon in an unlawful or irresponsible manner, and no I have never had to brandish a weapon in self defense. That does not mean that I have never been in a situation where I had to defend myself with a firearm. I have however had a front door opened by an armed 8 year old and seen my drug dealer neighbor trying to put together a broken gun that he bought for 20 bucks off a collector. Yes he got it back together and got it to fire. As far as DC vs Heller, that decision is not indicative of the intent of the writers of the Constitution, it is indicative of the opinion of 6 judges as to what the writers of the Constitution meant. It was not and is not a universally held opinion, and cannot be quoted as absolute factual evidence as to the meaning of a more than 200 year old document. For the record, I hate listening to people argue that they know exactly what someone else was thinking when they wrote or said something just because that is what they woul

1. Self-defense. A handgun is much easier to carry and fire than a larger gun, like a rifle.
2. Depends on whether the target is moving and what the lighting conditions are. Six shots is an arbitrary cut-off point.
3. By keeping your gun hidden and/or under lock and key when not in use, and putting the safety on so that in a worst-case-scenario situation, the gun can't be used easily by someone who doesn't know how to handle the gun.
4. The same way a person can keep a large stash of money in his possession without physically holding it all - by storing the gun somewhere safe.
5. See above.
6. I couldn't swear that, but hopefully you can. :D
7. No, have you?
8. I just hate this question. There's no obligation or moral duty established to serve in a militia in order to use your 2nd Amendment rights. They are and can be mutually exclusive - DC v Heller and McDonald v Chicago, two Supreme Court cases.
9. False premise - the purpose of an armed public is not to serve in a well-regulated militia. Again, see DC v Heller which stated that an individual right to possess a weapon is unconnected to service in a militia.

8. No. Legally I am my own militia. Title 10, U.S. Code, Section 311 further stipulates that the militia consists of all able-bodied males aged 17 to 45, both citizens and those who have declared their intent to become citizens, and of female citizens who are officers of the National Guard.
9. What does that have to do with gun ownership?

In answer to all of your questions I was a Detective in a major US city for 28 years. I worked undercover and seldom carried my weapon but either carried a concealed weapon or safeguarded my old 38 using an old Detectrive trick opening the frame of the gun and putting the frame through one side of a pair of handcuffs while locking the other side of my handcuffs onto a horizontal steel rod. I also had a locked trigger lock on it. I attended firearms instruction every 3 months and more than qualifed often shooting a score of 100. After I retired I gave my weapon to one of my old partners who was still on the job. I never used my weapon in the line of duty and the only time that I almost drew my weapon was after I faced a very menacing pit bull but was able to talk the owner into securing the dog in the house so I could talk to him
What so many people fail to realize is that most law abiding citizens who own guns have a legal gun permit and either use guns for hunting or for competitive target shooting or have carry permits because they are security guards or theit jobs require them to collect , carry or deposit large sums of money in high crime neighborhoods
I never once heard a bad guy say ' I went into that liquor store intending to rob the owner but when I remembered that the gun stuck in my waistband under my jacket was not licensed....I just bought a pint and went home to watch TV '
Not having a gun permit ever stopped any bad guy from obtaining or using a gun in the commission of a crime
More gun control laws only make it more difficult for the law abiding citizen to get a permit for his 1200 dollar Walther .22 Competition Target Pistol

4 I have a large gun collection. I do not need to hold all of them at once.

The Bill of Rights trumps all other concerns and bigotries. Guns are here to stay. Accept it and get over it.

1. Since I'm a woman, owning any handgun would be useful if someone tried to rape me.
2. That depends on what I'm stopping.
3. What's stopping a person from going to pawn shop and getting one themselves?
4. You can't. But you can lock them up and put the key where no one else can find it.
5. When I die, my gun will be buried with me.
6. Yes.
7. Not yet.
8. Why not? I could use the action.
9. So people can choose to fight on their own free will.

You live in the US that has a Constitution that states the right to bear arms, so either follow the law or try to amend the Constitution, ignoring or stepping over the Constitution for your own sake is unfair to the other citizens in our free society.
