can someone join the military if their Hiv positive?

If a person is hiv positive would they be turned down? I think they have full blown aids they may be turned down but i am not sure about being HIV positive. Will a HIV positive person be to much of health risk to other if he or she is allowed to join the arm forces?

HIV = NO way. It's an infectious, incurable disease.

You guys are a bunch of assholes. How about responding in a caring manner? A simple no would suffice. As for those who say it is highly contagious- no, wrong again. An HIV infected person is NOT a danger to everyone around him or her. If a person is diagnosed once in - Wrong again - they will NOT be discharged. However, there are jobs that an infected person will not be allowed to do, which makes sense.

As for being separated from fellow Sailors at work, and the asshole that commented that he hopes so.. I hate to tell ya, but WRONG AGAIN. Anyone diagnosed with HIV who is already enlisted will be given a specific position and allowed to continue service. An HIV positive person is still, at this time, not allowed to enlist, which shows a horrible trend in the stigma this country has toward those afflicted by disease.

This is part of the reason why America will fail. That, faulty spending, greed, lust, alcoholism, lies, manipulation.. the list goes on. Most of all, America will fail because of your false sense of security, and how you treat others.

No. Not only would this person be a danger to everybody around him but international law forbids the deployment of servicemembers who carry an infectious disease.

Another issue is in regards to firts aidf on a battlefield. In combat there is no time for somebody to don surgical gloves, mask and eye protection - thus if an HIV+ soldiier is wounded in combat he is likely to infect anybody who performs first aid.

No you cannot have hiv. We even have to take a regular hiv test to ensure we dont have it. If you do have it, you will be seperated. I even remember reading about a case where an airforce guy was brought on criminal charges for infecting people when he knew he had hiv but didnt tell anyone.

I highly doubt it. It is a health problem and you have to be physically fit to serve.

HIV is highly contagious and incurable and you put medics, military hostpital staff, and your fellow soldiers at risk when you are wounded in the field.

You need expensive drugs to keep HIV from becoming AIDS. So you will be expecting the military to pay for your medication? Also it is risky if you run out of medication when you are in the field or serving away from pharmacies that dispense your drugs.

Being HIV+ is a non-waivable bar to enlistment. No branch will enlist a person with this condition.

I have been told that there are some that join, they just will be separated from the fellow sailors at work.
