Septic System vs. sewer system?

The products I see for cleaning toilet drains all refer to septic systems; I am on a city sewer system.

Are products like RID-X, etc. ok for that as well? Logic would say yes, but I need to know if there are any potential problems.

Any product for unclogging or cleaning drains would work on a city sewer system. The products that are safe for septic systems will not kill the bacteria in the tank. Just don't get a product who's sole purpose is to "feed" the tank. Rid-X is one such product. It is to feed the tank. It adds bacteria and is not for use in a city system.

If you are on a city sewer system, you do not need any of these products. The only problem you may have is if you have a tree in your front yard or on top of the sewer line. Tree roots grow into the sewer and can clog it. I will not buy a house with a tree in the front yard. Owned one like this before and it caused a lot of problems for me. Had to have the pipes cleaned out every other year.

If you are city sewage i suggest you have your drains snaked outfrom your house to the street tie in.If problem persists most likely it's on the cities side that is thier responsibility.Putting cleaning agents down city lines is highly not recommended.First rid-ex and others like it are designed to stay in holding tank,in city lines it will just go right out to the street and not concentate on the initial problem.Second most municipalities frown deeply on ANY chemical agents intoduced to the city sewage systems. It can damage equipment at thier facilities or even worse possibly injure a public works employee that might come into contact with it.

If you are on a municipal sewer system there isn't need to use products like RID-X. The municipality looks after the waste lines as soon as they leave your home.
