Medication making my dog ill, but the vet wants her to take it again, Suggestions?
Hi all,
My dog has lots of medical problems including allergies, pancreatitis and yeast infections on her skin, ear and feet. The yeast infections on the ear and skin have cleared up nicely with shampoos and ear medication. The infection on the feet is not clear, but getting a tiny bit better everyday. On the 14th of Jan. my vet gave me Ketoconizole for my dog's yeast problems. She took it and about 15 mins later was extremely nauseous. The next day her stomach was making all kinds of noises, hurting her and she was pacing and pacing. The vet gave her some pain pills for her stomach and she seemed a little better. It took a good 5 days for her to feel all the way better. The vet now wants me to give her 1/2 dose of the pill again..she is not convinced that the pill made her sick, but I am. What would you do? Should I give her the pill again or not? Also, what can happen if I decide the yeast pills are not for her and try to control her yeast with the topical remidies I have described above? Thanks!

Mix up a spray bottle of 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water. Spray the infected areas, this will kill the yeast, continue to do this till it clears up. This also works great for cleaning ears, using cotton balls.
Keto really should not have made your dog sick, I have had dogs on it with no problems. It is probably the dosage. But regardless, yeast infections can be treated without medication. Take your dog off of it.

Ketonazole is the best medication for yeast problems. It can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs and cats, but usually the side effects are minimal. It sounds like your dog might be a little sensitive to it which is probably why your vet wants try a 1/2 dose. I say give it a try. If she does get sick again, it should not be as bad as last time. If not then she should be fine through the entire course of the treatment.

You know the dog better than the vet does. You live with her. I would not give any of that medication.
Is the food you feed free of wheat, corn, and soy. They are known allergins.
Look up Colloidal Silver for yeast infections. It can clear up the yeast. Also look at a Yahoo group call Silver Pets. http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/SilverPets
They can put you on the right direction. People on this list have dealt with yeast problems.

You need to ask to see the package insert that came with the medication to determine whether or not what your dog is experiencing is a possible side effect. You should NEVER give your dog, or you either any medication that you have not read the package insert about.

Sounds like a pancreatitis attack to me. Many drugs including steroids can cause these attacks. I don't think I would rick it, or at least get a second opinion.
