Are Americans afraid of universal health care?

I've heard stories on the news in regards to how the American people reject the idea of having Universal Health Care because they do not trust their government to run such a program.

I just read a heartbreaking story about a mother who was in an accident while 38 weeks pregnant and even though her and her son are doing well she's faced with multiple bills and is unsure of what to do.

Question is....If you were offered Universal Health Care would you take? Yes or no and why?

Update:

Drug overage? Or drug coverage?

Update 2:

Most employers offer benefit cards that cover prescriptions, dental, optometry, chiropractic etc. People who don't have this are able to buy it themselves, when I was 18 and no longer under my parents I bought my own drug plan and it was $15 a month and covered 85% of the costs. Low income families can apply for help through the government and are subsidized.

I could talk about this for a long time but I will keep this short and sweet. I see how the government handles things. And I don't feel safe having them interfere with my health. There are less drastic ways to get more people the help that they need.

BTW--So how is your drug coverage over there in Canada?-- sorry typing from a iPad, -- so how is it for you? So you are saying you pay high taxes yet you still have drug coverage like we have. And since many illnesses are managed by drugs, then I guess I don't see the need for universal health care. When I am pregnant I need blood thinners(lovenox) that cost a at least 1,000 retail per month for 9 months. This keeps my baby and I alive. For me the drugs never never more than 125 dollars. Many of my Canadian friends with the same condition could not get or afford lovenox.

Not if I have a choice. But Universal Health Care means you don't have any other choice (other than cash I suppose)

We do have problems with our insurance companies, but this is not the solution. If the market were open, we would have more competition, more customer service, and more affordable prices. But we don't. We also need to be able to own our policies like any other insurance (car, house, life, etc.). So if we change jobs it comes with us!

Keep in mind that the population of the U.S. is MUCH too large to have it's healthcare controlled by one central entity. It would be much too far removed from the individual. And we KNOW our government is inefficient at EVERYTHING else it does. I'm not giving them my life too!

Healthcare in the U.S. is the best in the world. No waiting and great care. This would all be sacrificed for a seemingly "easier" way to pay for it. We have select government hospitals already where people can get free care. And we have government insurance for the poor and elderly (wrought with FRAUD as it is). That should be enough from the government. Again, we need free market health insurance.

I live in Massachusetts where we have a semi-universal health-care. Right now, anybody can get health insurance with drug coverage. It is not free and cost about the same as most insurance in surrounding states. Also, insurance companies are not allowed to deny folks with preexisting conditions. So the "universal" part of the health-care is anyone can get health insurance - but it is not "free".

The people that refuses to get health insurance face a tax penalty (up to $1K). Those who cannot afford health insurance get a waiver and may qualify for cheap but limited coverage.

Down side is that doctors now have too many patients. I have to schedule my physical 8-12 months ahead because I am on the low risk group (under 30 without health problems).

I also know what is like to pay thousands of dollars on health-care. My fiance is very sick (tumors), even with health insurance, we paid over $$$ on co-pays alone. The pills he takes costs $1-3/each and he has to take 11 of them. Then he has to see 2 specialists a week.

I am for universal health-care, just as long as it is managed well, affordable and everbody PAYS for their share.

I'll tell you...if America is stupid enough to take upon themselves at this point the idea of Universal Health Care in the face of their 23 trillion dollar debt to the World Bank, they are really headed fast for broke!

A few years ago California had a crisis where they didn't have enough $ in the bank to allow government workers to cash their paychecks and ppl had to take IOU's from the Govt. Hilarious!

I forsee the future of America one day looking like a desert wasteland with hungry people walking around, maybe on the same commericals like we see today of those people in Africa starving, asking for World Aid Unicef charity.

As an American, who has lived in 5 different countries which contains Canada and Finland that use nicely-known well being care I see that it fairly works. the issue, although, is that it fairly works in undemanding words mainly countries. the U. S. has only a techniques too a lot of human beings for nicely-known well being care to paintings effectively. the human beings who will be procuring it will be the midsection classification. that's in basic terms the U. S. authorities's way of furthering the attitude of compacting out the midsection classification. also, having lived in Canada 11 years I surely have also considered the draw back of a nicely-known well being care device. If the U. S. wasn't so populated i'd be in touch by it.

No i would not because the government is trying to control everything we do. they have already started to slowly take our rights away. I do not know where u are religiously but i believe we r starting revelations and i believe obama is the one that is starting the world currency and when that happens we will be forced to comply or suffer the cost for our freedom.

Americans are afraid of just about everything that's new. Want to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable healthcare? No!!! It's socialism!!! Bring on the torch-wielding villagers!!! Funnily enough, the same idiots who like to scream about socialism at every turn are more than willing to give corporate welfare to billionaires and corporations...

no, just to stay afloat financially they would have to deny more than 50% of the claims.
