Atheists Don't "Want" God To Exist?
Theists are constantly accusing atheists of dishonesty about their beliefs. It is said that atheists just don't "want" God to exist, because they would then be judged for their actions.
This position reveals a lack of understanding that I find, well, difficult to understand.
Speaking as an atheist, I would LOVE for God to be real. An infinitely strong force for good that only wants to love me until he welcomes me to eternal bliss sounds pretty great, actually.
For similar reasons, I would also love for Santa Claus and Optimus Prime to be real. But alas, I KNOW because of my OBSERVATION, CONTEMPLATION, DEDUCTION, and INTROSPECTION, that God cannot be real. You must employ these things in order to 'believe' in the reality of ANYTHING.
I know this in the same way that I know Leprechauns and Hill Trolls aren't real. It's not that I fear the reality of Leprechauns and Hill Trolls. I disbelieve in your god (or any God) for many of the same reasons that Christians don't 'believe' in the Muslim God who tells people to blow themselves up on busses. Or is the argument that suicide bombers just don't WANT to believe in the Christian God?
Some other person, through their own OBSERVATION, CONTEMPLATION, DEDUCTION, and INTROSPECTION, may come to a different conclusion about the existence of God. Many of these people will (contrary to all sense, IMO) conclude that God is real. Others will honestly conclude that God is not real.
I think the real issue is that Christians cannot reconcile that their all-powerful, all-loving God created people that honestly cannot believe in him.
In the end, isn't it theists who are truly the frightened ones?
"This is not really a question" is not really an answer.
Geeza: You win the award for longest answer that says nothing of value.
I meant Jonathan gets that award... Sorry Geezah.

It’s a fair point, and worth highlighting -- although it will fall on deaf ears.
You mostly see this nonsense coming from the fundies (as per usual), with some even going the extra mile to claim atheists are rejecting God so they can have fun in their sinful lives.
These people are so caught up in their belief they can’t even comprehend someone simply lacking a belief in their almighty deity. Instead, they have to make-up an excuse for why someone would lack a belief in their god (a concept which is incomprehensible for those who have completely lost their marbles).

What I accept to be true has absolutely nothing to do with what I want. Either the evidence is there or it isn't. I think believers tend to think everyone chooses their beliefs like they do, based on what they want to be true. I think you are right about them not wanting to admit that their "loving" God would torture people forever, simply because they are incapable of seeing an invisible God. Well Christians, it's true we can't fool ourselves into believing in an invisible God. It's not only the complete lack of evidence for God that leads to my disbelief, but the description of God in the Bible is anything but all loving and all knowing.

In then end, we're ALL frightened. One of the things that unite us all is death and we're all afraid of it aside from the mentally ill.
Some of us are just less ignorant than others. It's up to all of us to show love and compassion no matter what we believe.
Source(s): [btw, I know for a FACT Optimus Prime exists, he's chillin' in my old toy box, bein' all like "Come on, take me out for old times sake"] - ?Lv 41 decade ago
You were given with freedom of choice. If you choose not to believe in God that is your choice. Islamically, Muslims shouldn't force religion on others. But Muslims should just make sure people are aware of Islam NOT by blowing themselves up! Islam forbids all forms of terrorism, especially the murder of innocent people. So in my view terrorists aren't really Muslims. Just thought I'd correct your statement.

Well, to be honest, if we're talking about the kind of god set forth in the Bible, who is perfectly willing to drown millions of innocent people just to satisfy his own ego, I'd rather he not be real.
How christians can claim to love a deity who does horrible things like that is beyond me.

I understand how you feel right now, ask a valid question, try to be polite and end up being called ranting
It's sad, so 1 star, cheer!

I think everyone spends too much time trying to tell the other who is "right" and who is "wrong". Who cares who is right? As long as you aren't harming others or myself, go for it.
I'm talking about theists vs. atheists by the way...

The statement of your Christian friends makes no freakin' sense.
Not "wanting" or "wanting" something suggests that you believe it exists.
We don't believe god exists. Period. End of story.

I would love for god to be real, but given what all I've experiences in the name well him I can not believe he exist.
