how reliable are the 2010 and 2011 mazdaspeed 3's, because im torn between this and the vw gti

A lot of things are reliable compared to a VW.

They're not in the same class. The mazdaspeed 3 is actually a fast car...the gti is not.
I still see mazdaspeed proteges running so that should be a testament to the durability of their performance engines. Not sure about the transmissions but assume they are fairly good.
