Peculiar questions about comfort objects?

My daughter is 2yrs old. She started, when she was young and bottlefed, to use my hair to fall asleep. She caressed the hairs that felt on my shoulders. I tried, throughout the years, to get her "interested" in an other comfort object but she just won't let go!!!!! Now I really think that since she is a big girl, it would be nice if she could fall asleep without me by her side... She doesn't need me. It's the hair and only the hair she wants. What can I do???? has this ever happened to anyone else????

Update:

we did try the doll with soft hairs, we tried a lot of things ;(

honesty. you may need to cut her off from her current comfort object (ie you) if you want her to take to a new one. So long as your avilible when she wants a comfort object she will stick with what she is used to.

I would first pick a new comfort object for her. Something with as similar texture to your own hair as you can, Start her out with it and getting her to pet/hold it while falling asleep. During this 'introductory' period you can stay with her while she is falling asleep if you want. Once she is use to the new comfort object your then want to start leaving her alone at night with only the comfort object. When you start leaving her alone you can stress it's because she is a big girl and that sleeping alone proves how big she is. She will have trouble getting to sleep the first few times, but she should transition pretty quickly so long as your consistent about requiring her to fall asleep on her own with the bear. The big thing is consistency, if your come back in and help her fall asleep if she makes enough of a fuss she will just learn to make a big commotion to get what she wants.

She is only 2 years of age, she will grow out of it. But if it is the hair she finds comfort in perhaps she is ready for a soft dolly with hair likes yours and the same colour. Good luck x
