What happens to my insurance if I change my car?

Hi, sorry if this question is very basic but I've never done this before lol

So I'm insured (Third party fire and theft) but in about 2-3 months, I'm hoping to change cars. At the time, I'll be about 5-6 months in to my insurance policy. If I change cars then, what happens to my no claims bonus? Can I just change the car on the policy and 6 months down the line, rack up another NCB (I drive less than 500 miles a year so hopefully no crashes)?

Or does it reset the clock so to speak so that I need to go another full year?

Thanks all!!

You tell the insurers and they alter the details on the policy. It'll make no difference to your NCB, it's still the same policy. There may be a fee for making the changes and it may make a difference to your premium.

Usually the insurer can just change the details on the policy for the new car.

Most will make a charge for this.

If you are driving less than 500 miles a year, you might be better off taking public transport and a taxi when you need to carry stuff.

Owning and running a car can be a big drain on your money.

Source(s): I have survived many years without a car, I always had a motorbike and usually had good public transport available.

If you wish to invest your holyday in an alternative place then Dublin is that place, see more with hotelbye . In Dublin you will see many exciting things and places, the Dublin Zoo and The National Gallery of Ireland are only two of the most truly effective attractions here. Trinity College is also a good interest for any tourist. Trinity College is in the middle of the capital and is just a loaded full of extraordinary history. That school is the oldest in Ireland and has been created in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I.

When I changed my car, I just contacted them and got charged the additional premium for the remaining policy that was left and yes it counts up as an extra NCB.

Your present day coverage will proceed with the recent vehicle info. Your NCB isn't affected in any respect. Any further rates are no longer regularly further to the relax month-to-month ones and besides as an admin cost on authentic they'll ask for finished fee of it up front once you call by potential of credit or debit card.

Doesn't matter how many cars, when you have gone a year with no claims, you have a 1 year no claim. Just remember to tell them when you change cars.

It all depends on the company your insurance is through...more than likely it can just roll over...just because you changed cars doesnt mean you have made a claim...but you never know, it is insurance and it seems they like to make things harder before they will make them easier. good luck!

you only get a one year no claims by having no claims for the full year also if the new car is of equall engine size to the old one then they will just switch the policy over to that one
