Could i run the 400m and other distance events ?

I want to do the 400m to just do for fun .I'm a distance runner and cross country runner so i'm most likely going to do the 1 and 2 mile for sure. Also the 800.I know that the 400m counts as a sprint and i was curious about me doing it and actually being good at it.Many people at my school say its different muscles and such and they aren't sport medicine doctors or doctors in general so i don't know if what they're saying is actually true.

I ran track in high school and the events I competed in were the 400m, 800m, 1mile, 2 mile, and 1600 m relay. Sometimes I'd only compete in a couple of the events while other times I'd compete in four events. It's not different muscles because of it being more of a sprint. I've seen a lot of long distance runners do real well in the 400 so give it a try and see how your time stacks up against other people. Try it several times. When I ran the 400 it wasn't a full on sprint out of the starting blocks. It was close to a sprint but you always save a little energy for your 'kick' at the end. I usually started my kick at about the last 75 meters.
