If Genesis is not to be taken literally, why did Jesus over and over quote that book as literal history?
Genesis is the foundation, apart from which we can’t really understand the magnitude of sin. Or the redemptive program of God, begun when God shed the blood of an animal to provide coats of skin for Adam and Eve, after He had given them His cryptic Gospel announcement in Genesis (3:15).

You are quite right. Christians who deny that Genesis is a historical account are undermining the Gospel they profess. It is very sad.

The whole Bible is to be taken Literally.
The Bible is meant to be Understood as a User Manual, Learned & Refered to as a History Book, Followed Like a Recipe and Cherished like a Love Letter. The Bible is all of the Above
There are some places where implicit thinking is required but it still remains literal

You've assumed that what Jesus said was of absolute truth. Also, you've assumed that exactly what Jesus said, was transcribed by his apostles. Do you see what I'm getting at? Or are you trying to prove a different point (Jesus can't be wrong therefore neither can Genesis).

back while i became a Christian, our church could clarify away such issues with the aid of pointing out the scripture that broadcasts the earth "became void and with out sort"; their clarification became that this void state lasted for an undetermined volume of time, and all such occurrences that required troublesome examination have been comfortably swept under this scriptural rug. additionally, I keep in mind being informed in church that some meteoric impacts have been area of God's technique interior the flood of Noah's time--the scripture the place it talks with regard to the waters breaking forth from the deep; supposedly, meteor impacts have been mandatory to shake those waters loose. stupid reasons, i comprehend, yet that's what our church taught.

Maybe Jesus was wrong?
Or maybe the people who wrote the NT felt that they needed to support the myths in the OT so they spin doctored it up?
