Sore throat soothers?
I have had a very painful sore throat for 3 days now... today i have now lost my voice. I have tried so many remedies to kill the pain but nothing is working... also, just when my throat is slightly less painful it tickles, causing me to cough, which is the most painful ive ever had, and this takes my throat pain back to square one...
so any ideas? Ta

WARNING!: Never drink cold water when you have sore throat, it increases the pain.
Gargling is the best treatment for a sore throat. Whenever I've done it, it has always worked. But make sure the water you use is either hot or warm. Not cold.
I got this from my high school advisor, or all people. It works like a charm and tastes great, too. In one cup of hot water, mix about a quarter teaspoon of ginger, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of sugar and honey to taste. The ginger is healing and will stimulate the cells in your throat to heal; the honey is soothing; the cinnamon and sugar are just for a little extra kick.
To soothe a sore throat, mix equal parts honey and vinegar together, the honey soothes and eases the pain, and the vinegar is a natural antiseptic. I usually use, apple cider vinegar as it tastes a little better, but any vinegar should do.

An old family tradition that works miraculously is to drink hot milk with a dash of cayenne pepper. The hot milk soothes your throat, and cayenne pepper is the best bacteria-killer. Feel better. :)

Mildly hot water and cough drops. Cepacol spray (an OTC medicine) is a local numbing agent. Unfortunately it doesn't last long and over use can be nauseating.
