How long is bus trip from Fort Wilderness cabins to the parks?
Hello Everyone :)
I'm wondering how long the bus ride is from the Fort Wilderness cabins to any of the Walt Disney World theme parks. I've stayed on Disney property before, but never at the cabins, so I'm familiar with Disney buses, water transport, and monorail.
Also, is it time-efficient to leave the parks during the day, eat at the cabins, then head back to the parks? My group wouldn't like to stress ourselves by taking long trips back to the cabin, then a long trip to the park again in the middle of the day. We're hoping to cut down on food costs by cooking at the cabin.
Does anyone have experience with the Fort Wilderness cabins that they'd like to share also? My group has just started planning, so we're open to any and all suggestions. I've been to Disney World several times, and am always willing to learn something new.

Fort Wilderness is centrally located between Magic Kingdom and Epcot. You can view its location here on Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&g...
Not only are there numerous bus stops for Disney's resort-wide transportation throughout the camping grounds, there is also a water taxi that runs from the Fort Wilderness docks to Magic Kingdom.
So, you're obstacle here isn't getting from the parks to Fort Wilderness. The issue, rather, is getting from wherever you're dropped off at Fort Wilderness back to your cabin (or the other way). Some of the cabins are a pretty good distance from the docks and the bus stops. When you consider all the walking you do at Disney World, I don't think it will be overwhelming. Nevertheless, hopefully you can get a cabin close to the main road if you want to go back and forth throughout the day.
If everything goes well, I'd say you'd be able to do the trip in 30 to 40 minutes from turnstile to cabin door. You'll have to decide whether that works for you.
But the cabins are really cute and overall Fort Wilderness is a lot of fun. If you do end up staying there, be sure to get reservations for the Hoop-de-Doo Revue: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g34515-...

About 10 minutes away from the Magic Kingdom, 20 to Hollywood Studios, 20 to Epcot, 20 to Animal Kingdom. I personally do NOT recommend staying in the cabins. I have stayed in them before and they have kitchens from the 1980s and they smell of mold and mildew. If you have asthma or other conditions or even if you don't have those conditions, do not stay there as you will become very ill after a stay longer than 3 nights. I Recommend staying at maybe All Star Sports if you want a good deal and a clean room (since All Star Sports was renovated in 2008). If you want a kitchen then I really don't know where you can get a decent one. Most of the rooms in hotels in that area receive around 200 different families each year and the mousekeeping does not really clean the pots and pans too well. The All Star Music has family suites available which include 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette, and a bedroom with adjacent living room and 2 closets. My advice, stay away from the cabins and look to stay at the All Star Music in the FAMILY SUITES if you really want the kitchen.
